I'm having trouble sourcing a pair RE 720's, anybody know of any stock anywhere north of Watford? According to my local supplier they are now discontinued, cheers.

Had four RE720's fitted last September by :-

Approx £71 inc VAT per corner fitted and balanced, then.

They had to order and this took about four weeks due apparently to 'no stock being available in the country'

This may be the problem now and they have still have to be ordered, so be persistant !

IMHO these are absolutly the best tyre for 'everyday driving' to fit onto the std 15" rim, at 60% ratio. They knock spots off the previous rubber that was fitted to the car.

Also try BlackCircles, they supplied all my RE720 for the S3 and never had any problems...

I was wondering about that, as I was already really impressed with RE720s on the S3, but have S03s on the V8S which don't inspire me with as much confidence as yet. I'm deciding whether a change would be worth-while because of that, as I recall the RE720 being great value (circa £70) a few years back.

But the RE720 are not V-rated though are they, is this an issue do you find?

RE720's are (were) V rated, but I have just spoken to my tyre contact, Shaun at ETB Worcester, who has checked with their 'tyrefinder'.... No RE 720's in the country - unless they are on a 'rack' in a small fitters somewhere.

Threrefore it appears Chris or any of us will not be able to use RE 720's anymore.

Any other suggestions ?

I believe the V8S should use Z rated tyres. At least, thats what I've got on mine.

But the RE720 are not V-rated though are they, is this an issue do you find?

The RE720 is indeed V rated (149 mph) and this is good enough for us humble V6 powered beings. I quite understand that V8s with all their power and noise would want a higher rated tyre

I have just checked etyres web site and they are quoting them, of course that does not mean they have them in stock.

Just spoken to very helpful young lady at National tyre's. She tried all there outlets nationwide with no luck, its seems RE720 are no more. I will try and contact Bridgestone and see what they intend to replace it with.

According to Bridgestone's (Europe) 2006 product list, RE720 205/60 R15 91V is still available.

It is misleadingly listed as "65 Series E720 FZ" on page 41.

Of course, none of this means it's actually available in the UK.
Many of the other RE720 sizes have diappeared. Perhaps ours has joined them.

I needed new fronts in January and they were no longer available in Europe.
They recommended to fit ER300's instead.

Interestingly all trace of tramlining disappeared instantly with the 300's.

Did you have tramlining with RE720s? I had SO2s on the front of mine and it wandered all over the place. When I fitted RE720s it was okay.

Well if the 02's were worse than the 720's thats scary!

The 720's didnt actually wander 'all over the place' but it was more than enough.

I have an almost brand new pair of RE720 on the front and it seems that the TURANZA ER300 is a direct replacement for RE720 so no choice but to mix and match. Has anyone else got any feedback as to how the ER300's behave. Cheers

Could be, but I put it down to the SO2s having a lower profile/stiffer sidewall. I find the RE720s to be a more comfortable tyre all round, it sounds like the ER300s would be a further improvement.

The young lady has Turanza ER300 tyres fitted to her MX5 1.8 Sport. They were a vast improvement over the Goodyear F1's that were there before and I've been impressed with them. The car now has superb turn in when cornering and straight line stability is also very good.

There were mixed views on a MX5 forum with the majority saying go for Goodyear F1's but one chap posted a very helpful and intelligent thread and explained all his experiences with the various top brands mentioned and his favourite was the ER300. The bonus for us is that our size is cheaper. They'll be the road tyre I fit when I eventually get the S3 back on the road.

I reckon you're probably right on that, as it does seem strange that the S02/03 tyres which go down to very low profiles can also be used in high profile applications where you've got more tyre roll and other factors affecting them, a tyre designed for high profile would seem to make more sense.

If RE71's were still available would anyone fit them to an S? How did they compare with more recent Bridgestone's?
