anyone else have this problem filling up at the gas station....... because
mines a cat version you can only use unleaded, but every time i fill up, the pump nozzle constantly clicks the fuel off as if the car is full of petrol.
so it takes 5 minutes to fill the car up! any idea how to fill up without the
wait or is it a known design problem?

Aren't you glad you've got those nice clean cats - only £500 each

Have you tried rotating the nozzle 180 degrees, or doesn't it work on a "C"?

Tried every angle to no avail.

As for cats, I've only got one - the other box turned out to be empty. Must have run out of stock the day they built my car

My S3c used to do this but it was a bit better if I pointed the nozzle forwards if you see what I mean, oh and also pulling it out a bit so some air can escape as the fuel goes in helps. R...

I just fill it up with the handle half depressed. Takes longer but fewer annoying clicks.

Have the same problem on my V8S, but thought this was cause by having the tank foam filled.

Sounds crazy but I used to use Ted's method on my Chimp but also holding up the pipe at the same time. (no rude comments please!)

My S3xc does it as well, turning the nozzle doesn't seem to help, so I go with the half nozzle theory. It might take longer but it gives ordinary car owners longer to admire a S series.

Stick the nozzle in upside down, pointing slightly aft- that seems to do the trick on my S3.

It does work on a "C", well some of the time, must be down to the pump.

Mark - You will find they all do this, the filler pipe fills up faster than the fuel tank accepts the fuel. I tend to point the nozzel down the pipe (the angle needs to be just right) and hold it slighly away so I can see when it's full. A bit of patience always helps, although I know the temptation to be off up the road is very strong!

Same problem - I find holding it upside down and angling slightly backwards helps! Different fuels seem to be a bit more foamy than others too.

ianw .... If you are still out there ...?

Does the foam filling work?
Does it stop the petrol sloshing around?
I guess a space needs to be cleared in the foam for the float to work?
