Resetting an alarm after fitting a new battery !!

Any thoughts please !
New battery fitted, car starts fine but blimmin alarm keeps going off !
Alarm runs for 30 seconds then stops. New battery fitted in the keyfob.
Has been suggested that I need to keep pressing the fob so the alarm will eventually reset but as yet ..it dont work !! AAghh

If your main battery has been 'down' or playing up for some time and has not been powerful enough to charge the alarm battery, this will have 'died' as well.
Mine did this and it took a good 48 hours for the alarm battery to re-charge off the main unit before the alarm worked properly. I had problems with it not setting and 'firing' without reason until the system seemed to 'rebalance' itself. Presumably maintaining the charge to the alarm battery must be a factor for the apparent rapid discharge of the main battery generally.
BTW mine is a Meta - presumably the 'std' fitting !!!

So, George, you think If I leave the car battery connected it will charge/reset the Alarm.
I assume that the alarm wont flatten the batery ? Cant do can it ?
As I suppose normally the battery is running the alarm overnight anyhow ?
Note to self, take up a basic car mechanical course this year !!!!!

I had a history of poor starting etc. until after checking the required 'turn over ampage' for the starter motor the battery fitted was just not up to it. It was a 65/70 amp hour but only pushed out enough current to turn over a Fiesta ! The V8 (V6 must be similar) when cranked is something like 400 amps draw ! This whacked the little battery fitted. First job was fitting a decent battery, by extending the carrier(in the boot) then connecting up. The alarm problem then started. I thought i had burnt something out. Spoke to a Meta dealer who said that the alarms have small batteries so they can work if the thief disconnects the main unit. If this discharges then the alarm sequence is lost and it has to re-set itself after charging the internal unit.
Seemed reasonable -so I left it connected (and unalarmed) for a couple of days and it has worked ever since OK. I am not an auto electrician but it may work for you as well.

I couldnt switch the dam alarm off. Mechanic called out suggested taking out the alarm and starting again with a new one. Finally, after loosing my spare key and alarm fob I found it. Tried it and guess what...the bu88er worked first time and the alarm finally went off ! Dont you just love these cars !
