V8S Exhaust changes - yes or no?

Now, when I was down to collect me Tiv last year, nice Mr S of Dull Ford, Devonshire was consulted on the possibility of making a V8S sound like the chugging burbly masterpiece of a Chim they had down there. The sound that Chim and Griffs make at idle that sounds like the engine is trying to rock free from its moorings. Like a big American muscle car sounds. Both burblesome and mechanical.

My engine is very smooth-sounding (more so since Mr S rebuilt it) both at idle and at speed, and I can't work out if I'm going to ruin things by having the middle box fiddled with .... or.... make it a whole lot better. I like the smoothness but I also feel it could do with a little bit of 'muscle' to make small children and dogs scared.

Has anyone had what I think are less perforations in the middle box applied to their V8 or V6 and what has been the result?

Hi Graham, my V6 has a modded exhaust, right, front silencer removed and replaced with pipes. Rear silencer opened and all the muffling removed, plus 2 resonance pipes fitted at the rear of the car. It certainly sounds throaty but I have made a set of baffles to try and keep the noise down a tad, all stainless, from the manifolds to the tailpipes. So I cannot speak on the V8, but I believe they are pre cat? and I have heard modded V8s with a straight through system, so for me it`s

You have a middle box Middle implies a first, second and third box. My exhaust only has one box, albeit in the middle I suppose, but it does sound like you seem to be lusting after. Its fitted with ACT manifold trees and y piece with a full stainless exhaust that was fitted five years ago by what was then Magic Castle - I don't know who made it up, probably the local blacksmith...............

It also rocks the car at idle - especially in traffic - like this morning on the A217 after a truck jack-knifed on the M25 slip road

I had my V6 crossflowed and then the seperate pipes with two small silencers in each built. Then had 2" tailpipes. Sounds good and burbles away nicely at tickover.

your man is V8Smith... he had the Offord cherry bomb conversion after hearing my Griff at full chat whilst following me.

i must admit i do like original on all cars, but you now rely on after market for every thing on a tiv so why not tinker just my opinion
