Bonnet Hinge Bolts

Afternoon all,

Does anyone happen to know the bolt measurements for the bonnet hinges. Mine are 19mm but what thread is it ?

I'd whip 'em out and take them to a shop but it's my only car so I'd prefer to get a set of replacements to simply ( ) swap over.

I've done a search but cannot seem to find a definitive answer so I apologise if this has been covered before

Also, what is the piece that pivots on this bolt that looks like a Rose joint but without the Rose if that makes sense as mine has seen better days ?

I think its M12, the pivot on mine is 90mm setscrew (threads up to the head). The rose-jointy bit is a 100mm setscrew with a piece of tube welded to the top, easy enough to get done if you know a welder.

Edited to correct bolt sizes, it isn't UNC, its metric coarse.

Ahhh, is that what it is ?

Mine's that corroded and covered in waxoil and dirt that I thought it was a bit more technical than that

So what's at the other end of that piece, another bolt head with tube welded to it as well ?

Theres a plate fixed to the wooden wheel arch and that has a tube welded to it. The bolt with the pivot-tube welded to its head is secured in this tube by a nut either side of the tube.

theres a passable photo of the arrangement in the bible (early edition) page 138 if you have one. I would photo mine for you but its in pieces...

Hey spludge that looks neat. so whats inside the tube ? my original nearside knackered one was just a nut wobbling around on a worn slot, but the offside one had a thick plate inside which the bottom bolt (like in your set-up) locked in place, the pivot bolt screwed through the slot into the threaded hole in the top of the thick plate. I liked that and thought it was a modification, but from what you show it looks like thats what its supposed to be like ...?

I think its supposed to be like that, don't think its a modification. Sounds like a piece of yours got lost at some point. If you need to get one made up its 10 x 25 x 55 mild steel with M12 tapped holes on 25mm centres. Another way of doing it would be to drill and weld a couple of nuts to a thinner strip, say 4/5mm. Either way it will work a lot better than just a hex nut and make the bonnet adjustment easier.

If you have Hargos email could you drop him a line and warn him that I changed the details of the bolt sizes, I'd hate to think he's orderings parts based on duff info from me.

It's supposed to have the thick plate behind it. Perhaps somebody 'lost' one of yours?
