No, it's not a common thing with S3's, it's a common thing with ALL S's!
Some are worse than others.
It's a common thing in all TVRs, but I think it's worse on Ss as due to their tendancy to point to the sky when you put you foot down, down to the trailing arms I guess.
My V8S seems to show 3/4 full when absolutely brimmed and then gets all erratic under 1/2 tank, the same as my Cerb did previously. Three AA callouts for petrol in TVRs over the year has taught me to consider the 1/4 mark as the empty line and anything else as a random amount of reserve fuel.

Yep, I recall the previous owner of my old S3 telling me about it cutting out once when barrelling down one of the sprial motorway entrance roads. My guess is that the fuel tank has no internal seperation (it looks like a kit car tank to me...) and the fuel simply moves as gravity commands, the fuel sender is on the left-hand side of the tank so when you turn left and the fuel goes right the car thinks it's sans juice.
Just be thankful the car doesn't have more electronics, otherwise it might think about the situation and switch the car off to guard against fuel starvation!

Yep, a bit unnerving when you take a long left onto a motorway then notice you've got no fuel, but good for moral on roundabouts.

Yep,very unnerving when taking a long left onto a Motorway then noticing you've no fuel, good for moral on roundabouts though.
I Keep a gallon of fuel in the boot in a suitable container and don't worry about it
