Hood bolts loose

Having decided to have a new rear screen fitted, I took off the whole rear section and found that all five bolts holding the lower frame onto the body of the car had the nuts loose. I mean really loose, about 1 or 2 full turns on them and they were off. Possible scenario, detached hood at highish speed and a lap full of roof panel, anyway I`ve seperated the hood material from the two frames ready for screen replacement, once it`s all ready for fitting back on the car I realised that I`ll have no access to the bolt heads. Plan B, five small steel plates drilled to accept the bolts, tack weld the head of the bolt to the plate, drill four small holes in the corners and using self tappers screw the plates into place, voila. Sorry it`s a long thread, may be worth you checking your hood bolts!

Mine has only got three. Either yours is later with more bolts added to the original design, or I have lost two Dont think so as I have one in the middle and one above each wheel arch where you can only just get to it.

Mine are always working loose and need re-tightening every few months.Split washers on mine now which seems an improvement. Rattles like hell when it's getting loose.

I wish mine were loose. Can't get the buggers to shift at all. Soaked them with penetrating fluid many times but just can't get them to shift for fear of snapping the bolts.

A quick diagram of the plate that holds the roof bolts in place, the bolt has been spot welded as shown in the middle of the pic, plus four holes for the self tapper screws to hold the plate on the fibreglass hoop, hope this helps.
