tvr "S" club

going out on a lim here but what about a club just for tvr"S" cars??????? joined the "OFFICIAL" tvr club was seems full of bar scittle enthusiasts!!! anybody any ideas?

Thought about it several times as I am the RO for the Oxford region of the TVRCC, the idea of just the S series is nice but there are not enough of them to make a breakaway club viable but maybe a pre Griffith club would work?.What would we do though just have an egroup (or whatever they are calling themselves this week!) or go the subscription/monthly mag and meet route?, anyone got any thoughts? I wouldn't mind running it but I think subscription would be say......enough to buy me a Tuscan S Cheers LeeBee

This is a point raised many times. The TVRCC is strong in many aspects (witness the new magazine) but weak in others. It does have an image of bar skittles type enthusiasts (perpetuated by the old style club reports). At the end of the day, it's one of the most popular car clubs in the world. If it's not what you want then get involved and change it. On the other hand in the modern age the existance of the club is also called into question of course. Events such as track days are no longer the preserve of car clubs and news is way out of date by the time it reaches a club magazine. Meeting other members can be done within minutes thanks to the internet. (Devil's advocate) why pay ~£35 a year for information that available more quickly and completely free? The fact that we can organise a meeting within a day or so rather than rely on monthly meeting also shows what a different age we live in. Are the days of old style car clubs numbered...? Replies on a postcard. Apologies if this is antagonistic but I have had a few Guinnesses

I don't think there are enough cars (2000 or so) for a decent S club. I'm also a TVRCC RO, but there are probably only about 3 active S-owning members in our region. If you start a separate club it will only serve to split the existing one (as happened with the Scimitar club). Why not an S "register" (section) as part of the TVRCC. Over the years it has struck me how the TVRCC is undergoing similar growing pains to the RREC www.rrec.co.uk in the 70's. The RREC resolved them by having both area sections and model registers. The 20hp register (1922-9) is very sucessful and means that its events aren't full of Shadows and Modern Rolls. However it would avoid the nasty splits that effected the RSS0C. There could also be similar "registers" for Grantura, Vixen, M and Wedges. Each register could then have have say half a page of sprint to report news - ie the Windsor Pub meet; cf regional round up. It is slightly ironic that some S owners feel that the newer owners don't understand them, when I first got the S (in 91) the M owners thought the same about the S and Wedge owners. - "What colour are you ordering your Griff in?"

but cant the two clubs run side by side. the s club could have a magazine that gives technical advice,readers cars profiles and modifications sections and product evaluations relavant to our cars,which i feel the official club does not do.we dont have to go up against each other but could benifit each other by having members that would not rejoin the offical club its main concentration on newer models of tvr.this is why i have not rejoined due to the club mag being full of adverts,racing and club round ups and very litle else.while this intresting to some it becomes a bit stale after a time.this is not a personel attack on anybody to do with the club but some people want different things.

But who will write the stuff? I think it goes back to the original point that I raised. In this day and age people are more reluctant to spend time documenting things when information is so easy to come by.

The TVRCC helped/encouraged the production of the S bible so without them it would simply not have happened.
The fact that bible exists and will continue to be expanded will ensure that the S community will have the information to maintain these cars.

2. As for more technical information in the magazine... it is happening but only Pete Humphries has provided any articles to me for publication in the last few months. So Ted is right that it is very easy to whinge but a lot harder to contribute. If people contribute articles that can be printed (many are not suitable either for technical inaccuracires, libel or other legal reasons), I will include them.
