Bought any duff (watered down) fuel lately? I bought some in Blackpool (of all places) and then my S2 missfired all the way back to London. When the tank was refilled it returned to normal. When was the fuel filter last changed? A couple of years ago I had starting/running problems that couldn't be fixed by all the usual means (plugs/leads/rotor arm/throttle pot/air meters/air bypass valve/fuel filter, etc). It turned out that the multiplug in the fuel injector wiring had failed after 9 years of being cooked on top of the engine. Roy.

My current fuel problem is related to the fact the some b*****d cut a two foot length out of the fuel hose under the car when it was parked. If it had been the Tiv I could have understood (jealousy?) but on a F-reg Golf? There again, on a Tiv they wouldn't have been able to reach the hose so easily! Had a nice time with the fire brigade coming to hose down half a tank of petrol on the road!

Only similar Tiv problem has been throttle cable coming detached from the pedal because the shroud was badly fixed at the bulkhead in the engine bay and the whole thing came loose. Thankfully both times it happened (second time with a new cable)the car was stationary, as it jammed the throttle wide open! Either the bulkhead fixing has been badly modified, or it was just a bad job in the first place. Has anyone else experienced this on a V8S?
