Hydraulic or Not (Tappets)

How do I know if my 2.9 V6 engine has Hydraulic or Mechanical Tappets.
I have read somewhere that it is very hard to tell the difference ??????? Does anyone know an easy way to tell ,before I take the rocker covers off.
All suggestions appreciated.I'm hoping mine are Mechanical as it sounds like a bag of nails and I dont fancy renewing Hydraulics.

i think the 2.9 v6 has normal tappets and the later sc3 s4 had hydraulic tappets

i hope so anyway as i adjusted mine last year

yep - all the cat-equipped cars (S3C and S4C) have hydraulic tappets, non-cat cars are normal tappets.

Thanks for the replies,I can get the S in the garage now (sold the MGB and the Midget to make room)so can get some serious work done on it now without fear of the wonderful Manchester climate.
