S and griff steering rack interchangeable

Hello All,

Appart from completely overhauling my S 1.5 I'm trying to convert from RHD to LHD and for that I need another steering rack.
I am offered a power steering rack from a griffith. And I must say I like the idea. But will It fit?? It seems that the way it is mounted is the same and the track width from the griff 500 is the same as the S-series: 1460mm.
Is there anyone out there with both an S and a griff who would be so kind as to compare???? Or does anyone have experience with this concept? (fitting Griff rack into an S-series)

I have both an S2 and a Griff 500. The Griff does not have power steering, but I doubt the overall size will be much different from a non PAS.

Hi Olav,

I seem to remember that the same steering rack can be mounted "upside down", which makes it LHD.

Not sure if the S1.5 is an exception.

Mounting the steering rack upside down will give an interesting result: The car will go right if you steer left, and vice versa. Would be good fun to drive such a car on a twisty road

BTW Olav, keep us posted on your LHD conversion plans: any ideas are welcome, for all of us who are still driving a RHD car on the wrong side of the road.

Good thinking! I'm working on goggles with mounted mirrors. Any ideas? BTW Backward gives more space for my cauch.

But...isn't there anyone out there who ever tried anything other than an original steering rack??
Any experiences with power assisted steering?
I suspect that king-pin inclination is too upright for P.A.S. ????
