Rattles , cure anyone?

I know the S is known to rattle and Iwas wondering if anyone has managed to find any cures for the worst culprets. Mine seems to rattle with the window pane in the runners and there seems to be a number of others too. Any suggestions .

ps this has been prompted by swapping my suspension to Gaz and having them set up on the stiff side (drives well just sound like a set of maracas).

Rattles come with the car I seem to fear, and I spend hours of otherwise useless drinking time taking bits off, re-securing bits, and re-building bits, in a tireless (and partly useless)hunt for the latest rattle.

Main culprets picked up to date
Bonnet hinges
Wheel arch liners fixed to the bonnet
Any loose stones, bricks (part of as I found out), rubbish etc thrown into the front end of the bonnet, they all jangle together to add to the noise.
Doors and windows - after removing door cards all sorts of crimes have been committed in my doors, loose screws, flapping and cut rubber anti rain panels (they flap against door when cornering) - now re-fixed and rain resistant, window runners - there are suppliers for the brush inserts if i could find them. All manner of odds and ends were removed to reduce the full band to a quartet ! The card itself - i am thinking about reinforcing if possible and some form of neat exposed fixings - mirror screw type - watch this space.
Stainless steel cill covers - mine rattled because the fixing (sticky pads) had failed and the flat sheet drummed on the slightly concave arch.
Rattle from rear window stay - that one is easy!
Rear view door mirror glass - and mirror as mine left the car at speed, caught by thin cables!! - grub screw had loosened (V8S mirror)- use the Bible to fix plus short allen key twenty-six fingers and a can of touch up paint !
More sinister - exhaust reverb on chassis when 'playing' - it has been reshaped on the lane too many times.
Odd cables, and pipes under the bonnet- tap, wriggle, fiddle and carefully tape, or clip as required.
The rear exhaust note - cannot improve on that - great !!

Hope this is a start - i'm sure ther are others I have not traced yet.

blimey cheers for the comprehensive reply. So does anyone have a non rattling S (or is this missing the point- buy an Audi TT if you want silent (read boring). If anyone posts yes then I'll try to sort it otherwise I suspect its better to leave it be and enjoy the sunshine.

Best cure I found for rattling windows was to drive everywhere with the rolled pretty much all the way down - seems to jam the glass against the runners and the frame et voila, no more annoying noises.

Worst rattle was coming from the cats but thats all sorted now

I must have had really crap cars before the S, because I've never noticed it rattles any more than any of my previous cars. Now you've suggested it does, I'll be hearing rattles everywhere

Hi Jake - Thanks for response. Yes they all rattle, but some of the enjoyment of ownership is driving as many miles as possible to detect location of the rattles - Tee Hee !!! - one of my excuces to 'er indooors - 'just popping out to see if I've cured the ______ rattle' etc. Works most of the time!!
By the way 'er indoors has an Audi TT as her 'daily driver' - and we have rattles in that as well ! So don't feel left out - and enjoy S motoring. The TT is quick, good and does a job, the S is for those 'heaven moments'.
