Induction kits......

Hi all,

I want to change the current air filter set-up on my S3 which I think is very poor...... It's currently the standatd set-up of Pipercross foam air filter with a crank case breather hose stuck in the side of it.
I want to bin the crankcase breather hose and replace it with a catch tank, but more importantly, I want to replace the foam filter set up. I have found these to be quite restrictive with regards to air flow on my other cars and want to replace it with a couple of cone filters. As part of this process I want to relocate the filters as putting them behind the rad is frankly stupid - they should be in a stream of cold air rather than sucking in warm air thats just been through the rad and slowed down....
Has anybody else gone this route? If so, what product did you end up using....?

I use a K&N filter positioned beside the rad, sealed off from the hot side of the engine bay. But my induction layout is a bit different to yours, I think!

I remember seeing this done to car at SCH2..... I can't remeber whos though (not much help I know)

Hi Ianm67 - did you make the changes you were thinking about back then ? I have the same problem and would like to know if you made the changes and was it worth it ?

I used some flexible ducting to get cold air to the filter....

Still in place after a year...

Looks a neat set up mate... what is the filter and housing - pipercross ? looks different to mine. I like the induction hose you have as well. do you have any details. I definitely need to change the manky ones on mine

mine is an s3c so air flow meters but a MAP sensor instead. yes it isa pipercross filter. All other pipes already there other than the cold air from the front which is tumble dryer ducting!!

I've seen a setup with airfilter bolted straight to the plenum chamber.
That cought me off guard..where are the AFM's?
But it really looked fine! although it misses your point of getting a forced flow of cool air.

Later models of the 2.9 have MAP sensor instead of AFM's, so with that set-up the filter can move upstream. Shere should still be a throttle body between the filter and plenum though.
