I've got a small leak on my V8S from the junction of the top hose and the rad. I've replaced the jubilee clip but it's no better so I suppose I should change the hose.

Is this a bespoke TVR part or can I get it off the shelf at a motor factors / rover dealer. Also is it worth applying some Bos White or similar to the inside of the hose prior to putting it back on?

Cheers,

Steve.

Take the hose off and check the condition of the inside of the hose, and the radiator spigot. You may be able to get away with just cleaning up the spigot, or cutting half an inch off the end of the hose.

OK, I'll try that. If the hose is knackered does anyone know the best place to source another?

I had a slight leak for ages, turned out that it wasn't the hose, the rad stub had cracked out of the header tank - cost me £10 to get it resoldered.

Also - I have seen cases before where the stub gets oval so a round hose with a jubilee clip is never going to seal properly.

i had the oval problem as well
silicone hose and a mickolor clamp sorted that out
if i remember right the top hose is one bend and 1 straight bit with a joiner
ACT sold me the full set but I think he said you could buy the individual bits and bobs

ACT for the hose and new jubilee clip, the clip might be tightening on itself rather than compressing the hose

Blimey I'd complain to the last owner if I was you , to his credit he did point it out though .
I would have thought taking it off completely like Peter says cuting a bit off making sure the pipe is clean and put it back together with new clip would sort it. The rubber hoses seem to form a memory for the old jubilee clip and unless it lays in exactly the same place they never seem to seal properly again.

Apart from topping it up due to the small leak I take it his weather hasn't troubled the car .

Just read the spec for your last Chim Steve, be good at somepoint to post a comparason between a tuned V8S and tuned Chim first hand .

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that this weekend.

The weather hasn't bothered the car at all... except it's getting used a lot! I top it up each drive so no problems.

Getting used to the performance now and starting to get a feel for the 'power band' when the engine comes 'on cam'. It's been quite a surprise for for a few drivers who decide to sit on my rear bumper in their hot hatches (and one Porsche Boxter) trying to prove a point. Not so sure of themselves when I'm 100 yds ahead and the gap is opening ever more quickly!

Any news on your engine for the new car! Hope it's going well.

Steve.

Yes with it spinning so freely 'on cam' is 2.5-6K rpm and more .

Did I mention that she flames on the overun at about 4.5K rpm (roughly peak torque/volumetric efficiency ) and above, just gets a bit tiring being up there when not on throttle so didn't do it too often .

Mmmm.. I'll have to remember that. Should give some tailgater a bit of a fright .

The V8S vs Chim comparison would be a bit one sided as although they are both 4 litre engines the specifications are poles apart. As is the performance.

I doubt that your'e remotely interested as it's not your thing but I've just spent two long evenings touching in the stone chips and cutting and polishing her. She is now looking rather shiny indeed. Still thinking about a respray at some point in the future though. Thought about British Racing Green or Cooper Green. What do you think?

Glad someones finally doing the stone chips, careful though it can lead you down the 'I don't want to drive it in case it gets dirty' school of TVR ownership .

As for colour, I think you will find the Brooklands Green it already is, is probably nearer to a true British racing green than you will find, ala early Bentleys/Jags etc, it can look very black in some lights.
Personally I wouldn't change it, if money was no object then my favourite colour is reflex charcoal, a modern take on BRG IMHO, but that would probably cost more than the cars worth .

Mk3 astra hoses fit. I did mine (on the S3C), watch the aux belt doesn't rub it away though as it's a common problem. I put a cable tie around the top hose and another small one, it didn't impinge the hose, but lifted it a good quarter inch clear of the belt.

Removed hose, gave it a thorough clean up together with rad spigot. Re-fitted to a slightly different position and fixed with new hose clip... Warmed her up... not a drop to be seen!!

Thanks for your help guys!

Steve.
