Thanks guys for your valuable advice and sharing your experience in fault finding ! My TVR S3C is now my most reliable car; always starts and runs as any modern quality high performance car. Most important upgrade over a couple of years has been the replacement of all electrical connectors to water proof connectors, cleaning and ensuring good earth contacts, and engine chipping and tuning at Austec. The improvements may not turn out to be the solution to all cars but has certainly done the trick for me :-)
