LS,

my insulation is partly gone. Exactly facing the waterpump belt! Checked I have a spare belt and the right spanners on board.
I am surprised, years ago I fried a belt with insulation in place. That was after a bout of full throttle and max revs (German Porshe needed passing).

Bare skin is not corroded. No rain yet? Belt seems still sound too. Maybe the catalyst is not so active anymore?

Anybody knows of suitable materials that manage catalyst temps. Has to be thin too, 5 or 10 mm.

Something like Thermotec would probably be OK for this.
Its like a heat insulation tape that winds around the exhaust.

Should be available here: www.motorsportworld.co.uk/

My first thought was ' get rid of them ! ' you will get an extra 10/15 bhp,and replacement exhaust tubes ( for the gaps ) are readily available . BUT then note you are in Holland and maybe the cats are mandatory if originally fitted , unlike here if they fited prior to 1992 (?). they can be removed.

thanks for the answers.

Amazing stuff that thermotec, 2000 degF = 1100 degC.
They do not deliver outside UK, should rename themselves from motorsportworld to motorsportinsular.
But the stuff comes from the USA and I found a Dutch shop I can check, order and drive by in 4 days max.
I am going for that.

While looking for a Dutch supply, I stumbled upon something for the SV8 chaps: www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/exhausttuning.html

Our MOT (APK) exhaustgastest (for my cars manufacturing date) seems not to notice the presence of the catalysts.
But the "inspector shall verify that the environmental controls are present".
So still hot surface near belt if I uninstalled both, drilled the innards out, then reinstalled. 15 HP sounds tempting though.

Maybe I should do some extra insulation and reduce underbonnet temperatures.
Any thoughts about that battery insulation they show? Delays external heat-up, but would the internal heat of charging not negate that?

a touch optimistic I think..... maybe 3-4 extra bhp or 5 on a very good day
