roof lugs

well my drivers side roof lug has finally given up the ghost and come away from the rest of the roof panel it
looks like whoever replaced it last time didn't drill the old lug out,
but cut it out and tried to fibre glass it back in ,what is the best way to bond this back in and hopefully hold it in as the stresses on it are quite strong.

If i've read your post right it sounds like the same problem I had with mine. Chris drilled out the old bit and made me some new stainless steel bolts for it

Edited to add: just re-read your post and been and looked at your roof panel and I'm guessing you mean the whole thing has come away, in which case .... as you were chaps ......

Did you see that Steve Heath had new ones at SCH4
Sure he would tell you how to fit them.
They were solid plastic rather than metal covered in plastic, looked good.
I think his kit is available via Tower View.

Hmmm that is messy.....

TVR Car Parts have the lugs but looking at that picture that's just part of the problem.

I would say that you try and find a replacement panel in better condition.

To repair that you're, going to have to effectively replace a large area around the lug. The problem is that once you've removed the area around the lug it's going to be tricky to get the lug in the right place to line up with the holes in the roof.

You probably need to grind out an area at least twice the size of the lug all round and then you'll have to bond in a new lug with several layers of fibre matting and resin layers; adding additional matting around the sides to level it up with the rest of the panel. Then you'll need to finish off with a few layers over the entire area;some fibre-glass tissue to get a smoother surface then finish of with a scraping of paste then sand it down smooth.

Slightly different subject, but the front clamps on my hard roof (S2) have both broken off. Are this available or is there anything better.

I got some stainless steel ones from Leven Technology, they are not cheep, but they are good quality. I have my originals somewhere, if you want them mail me.
