Replaced my cv joints earlier this year, now getting a hollow metallic tapping from the rear of the car. I packed the joints with grease when they were replaced so I don`t think it`s them. I haven`t yet started to strip things off yet, but could it be propshaft u/j`s as it sounds as if something is pinging on the propshaft. The annoying thing is, the noise isn`t constant but it is speed related, could it even be the diff? any ideas gratefully recieved and no small mammals 
Already replaced the diff bushes a short while ago and checked them today. I have greased the prop shaft, repacked grease in the cv joints, dropped the exhaust and checked around the propshaft for anything hanging loose. Spoke to clivef tonight and he reckons it may be brake related, I had the car up on axle stands engine running in gear and the left wheel seemed lazy while the right wheel was running freely, so , I will remove the brake drum. God this is doing me in, I can`t take the car out in case I do any damage and it`s perfect tiv weather.

Sounds like it will be worth jacking it up and letting it run in gear, you shoud be able to find the source of the noise then. Obviously a ramp would be better, but with axel stands you should be ok.

Did this yesterday and on axle stands it didn`t make the sound, I did notice the left wheel was labouring compared to the right so tonight I`ll look at the brake and drum.

Since found it does the noise anytime, cv joints on the left are bu$%ered,
I replaced these earlier in the year, I`ve got slight movement in the driveshaft so it has to be cv related. I am wondering if I was sold re-con instead of new joints
