Can anybody help with this one, 2.8 V6 Colonge unit in S1. Good oil pressure, runs fine, pulls fine, doesnt burn oil, just serviced with new Mobil 1, filter and plugs etc.

gettin a strange faintly metalic sucking noise. Sorry to be so vauge but its a strange noise. Sounds a bit like fan belt slipping but checked that and its fine. Sprayed with WD40 too to check but noise still there. Doesnt happen at revs, only mainly during tickover and then its not all the time. Does it went warmed up more than cold.?????

Could it be something to do with timming? too advanced or retarded and chuffing back through inlet?

Dont want to wreck engine, even though loads around but only done 58k so should be sound.

sounds like an inlet manifold leak - it could be the manifold to head gasket, the plenum chamber, or even an air leak around a throttle spindle. It could also be that a rubber vacuum hose has cracked or come off, and is drawing air.

Can you get a hold of a vacuum gauge? At least that will let you see if there is a leak somewhere.

Had a look tonight and all hoses in place and intact, tried the old wd40 around the joins to see if a leak is there and nothing.
It sounds like 2 metalic discs rubbing together very slightly, comes and goes, sometimes ages before it starts up and gone in seconds.
Just had valve clearances done, would that of caused something?

Anybody know of a good tvr ford engine man in the suffolk area?
