Hey again,

I have just had the car checked by my garage and he found 2 problems.
1) the radiator leaks so I have to change it or get it reconditionned. What do you think and if you have a radiator for a S1 in good condition in Hampshire, please let me know
2) something to do with the steering but I didnt get the name. Basically the ball joint in the engine compartiment has a little play and he told me that with time I will just turn the steering and nothing will happen... So I need to change something in there (passed MOT in april this year )

A call to Wessex Radiators in Bursledon maybe ?

Does he means the 'bulkhead bearing' ? Probably loads of info if you search the S forum and IIRC there are detailed replacement instructions on pies' site - www.tvrsseries.com

Alternatively, email me through my profile and I'll mail you back a pdf copy of the instructions..

It sounds like one of the UJ's (Universal Joint) in the steering column (usually the upper one fails). Tower View have the replacement parts.

SS2, you been to Weesex Radiators? I have been told to go there as well and expect a new radiator for about £100... Not sure if I'd better get it reconditionned.

I found the PDF about the bulkhead bearing replacment but it is the UJ as RoyC specified. The bottom part to be precise.
I will have a looky, thanks

Axe,
Bursledon radiators re-cored mine about 2 yrs ago approx £110. Good service and done in 2 days.
I think I also got a quote from Serck-Marston - which was about the same price - they're in the yellow pages.

oh ok thought it was £100 for a new one and cheaper for reconditioning it. Guess I have been mislead, wife ain't going to be pleased with that
and if I go to a breaker and find a nice Leyland van, take the rad out and put it in the tiv? Would that be cheaper? Damn it sucks to be poor

I think the TVR version has an extra core.

Just gave them a ring so I have to bring the radiator to them and they will fit a new core in for £110 ex VAT.
Have to get the thing out of the car now
Unless someone has one for sale pretty soon, that will be my only solution

Cheers for the help

I'm in the same boat... Rad is out of the car...

But

I'm in the USA...

Bagshot radiators in Odiham are also worth a call... Very good so I hear. Not sure of the price though.

have got the Bible indeed.
Just checked the forums and gave a call to www.serckintertruck.co.uk comes up to £120 + VAT.
Will go to Wessex Radiator then as it is £10 cheaper and not too further away.

I'll remove the rad tonight and bring them tomorrow so hopefully I will have it by friday.

Thanks all

PS: bridgdav, sorry mate, got to do mine fairly soon, don't want my P&J to blow up on me but if you are around the Portsmouth area, gimme a shout anyway.

It may be worth getting a price from 'Kingston Radiators', Kingston Rd, Shirley, Southampton. if they are not too far from you.

Hey,

Have not done it yet as it seems the radiator is leaking only when the car is lifted on either side. Can't work out what is wrong though and the bottom is a tad rusty so when i will remove it and give it a good brush, I'll take it to someone for a recore.
But that will happen when I finish the garden... which is soon(ish)

Next day turn around

But I'm off to China again on Friday..

All this weather and still the car is laid up.

So when are you going to do it?
If you want to do it when you get back from China, give me a shout.
Funny cause I have been quoted £110 + VAT from Bursledon... might be my accent

hey brigdav,

you got yours done yet?
Finished the garden this weekend, looks more than alright so hopefully will get the radiator out tonight or tomorrow and bring it to Wessex Rad...
If you got it back already, how long did it stay with them?
