Hello everyone.
I have been looking for S2's but looking at the price difference for an S3 there is not much in it. what are the differences. I know the doors are a bit longer and have been told that the S3 is perhaps a more reliable car. are there any significant differences that i should look out for. Are the typical problems with the S2, i.e chassis rust doors slipping, throttle cable snapping, the same on an S3.

The majority of differences between the S2 and S3 are cosmetic. The S3 dash will probably be different with a transmission tunnel and facia approach as opposed to the ‘swoopy’ all in one style of the S2. The bonnet will more than likely be different with the addition of driving lights on some S3s and you get more up to date wing mirrors – the more substantial Citroen CX type as opposed to the wobbly smaller ones. Have a look at PHer pies website at www.tvrsseries.com/ where there are lots of pictures of the various models that’ll give you an idea. There don’t seem to be any hard and fast rules though regarding which bits you get on which model.

The S3C allegedly produces a higher torque figure due to the cats but I’m not sure how much difference this makes having only ever driven a catted model.

All the usual S problems are common to both so look for the dropped doors, rusty riggers, delaminated windscreen etc – you must know the score by now!

Get yourself a copy of the bible, Steve Heath's book on the S series (see www.tvrbooks.co.uk - available from the TVRCC). This contains a chapter on identifying each type as well as lots of other useful info.

BTW the bigger doors on the S3 do make a big difference to getting in and out.

Yes the S2 dash is better in my humble opinion. In the classifieds the Bronze S2 is a very good car and known to many of us, low mileage as well and in good condition. The price reflects this so if you are after a good S2 then take a look or even mail him.
