Cleaning exhaust soot deposits

Looking for advice on the best & easiest way to clean soot deposits from the rear of my V8S (just managed to stop the wife from putting the scouring pad to it!). Any great tried and tested methods out there? Thanks in advance.

Fletch, Just cleaned mine which was caked in soot (previous owner never cleaned it) I used Brasso metal cleaner on the twin pipes, and Mer on the bodywork - worked a treat. Cheers, Dave. Edited by Dave_H on Wednesday 29th August 20:08

Try Auto Glym tar remover, or next level would be Halfords colour restorer, not half as strong as Tcut Giles
