Here's a boring thread that will either take off or die....
Which engine oil and why?...

Just about to do the spring service on the S1. Which engine
oil do most of you use and why? I guess you will all say
Mobil1 - aha - but which one 0W-40W or 15W-50W?

Manual says 20W - 50W, and let's face it - it is just and old
Capri lump after all . So, should I buy Halfruads 'Classic
Car' 20W-50W for 15 quid ? or invest in Mobil 1 at £38.99 !!!

I alwys just buy a decent oil and change it and the filter regularly(bout twice a year)dont know if there is any real benifits in buying mobil although opinions will differ. best keeping it fresh and clean and your engine should be fine.

I have recently changed from Mobil1 motorsport 15W50 to Castrol Magnatec 15W50 for conventinal engines (pre 1990). Its still synthetic & the right grade, it also provides good start up protection. Its been good so far & stayed very clean.
Its also a fair bit cheaper
