Guys, 2nd daft question in as many days.... The Steve Heath book is high on my agenda, in fact I''m going to order it tommorrow.. But in the mean time, can anyone tell me what is an acceptable level of oil pressure? All I get at tickover at 90c is the needle between the zero and first line (below the 50), and when pushing on I get no more than 50. The car has had a crank regrind and engine rebuild at 31k and has only done 45k now, it pulls like a train and doesnt smoke. Planned to buzz around in it this weekend, but need some reassurance as to whether I should.. Cheers, Dave. Edited by Dave_H on Friday 24th August 18:59

To quote Steve Heaths book: These are medium oil pressure engines and will typyically show at least 38 psi at 2000 rpm, higher pressures are common and this figure should be treated as a minimum. I get reading of about 50 or slightly over when driving. SP Edited by steve parker on Friday 24th August 20:27

Cheers Steve. If that's the benchmark, then I'll try it at 2000rpm tomorrow - When going into town to order Steve Heaths book!! Thanks again. Dave.

I get an indication of approx 25 psi (ie the needle roughly half way between 50 and zero)at tick over and between 45 and 50 psi at driving revs. After discussing this with a few people I have come to the conclusion that this is fairly normal and have (almost) stopped worrying about it. Charlie.

I had the same worries as my gauge was (is) all over the place. If you take it to a garage and get them to measure it for you. They can plug a gauge in and get an accurate reading for you - most will have the adapter for the 2.9 I imagine (our local alfa garage had one). -- Mark
