Iv'e just bought a DRAPER BATTERY MASTER to keep the battery "topped up" to 12v during periods of inactivity.
The battery leads are permanently left connected but there is no mention in the Instructions of having to either remove or loosen the battery top up plugs whilst topping up is under way. With a Battery CHARGER for safety I would always remove the top up plugs to release the "gas" build up. Is it not necessary on one of these things? Have you got one and what do you do?

I have been using an Airflow Battery Conditioner for several years. When operating, there is only a small charge (and a small chemical reaction), so a lot less gas is given off than when the battery is connected to a charger. It's more important to keep an eye on the electrolyte level, as this will drop over time and shorten the life of the battery.

I have been using an Airflow Battery Conditioner for a couple of years now and can't remember any instructions about loosening the tops on the battery. As stated by Roy above, with it only being a trickle charge there shouldn't be a problem.

You car will charge it itself far more than any of these conditioners - and you don't drive around with the "plugs off" do you

As an aside, most modern batteries are fully sealed for life, and as such don't have any plugs to remove. They all have a small pressure valve in them to release any built up gases at a constant rate - so don't worry about it.

For those interested, DRAPER have advised me that it is not necessary to remove the battery top up plugs when using the unit. The unit only uses 300MA and providing you keep an eye on the battery, the infuse and see that the unit is "warm" - no problems.
