Dear TVR friends

I am one of the few in switzerland who owns a TVR V8s. I love this car and
its powerful torque. But, sometimes I would like to have more.

If the engine can take it, I would install a subercharger or a Nitrous Oxide Injection (NOS)
in order to get a power of 300BHP.

Does anyone have experience with such a project? Is the engine strong enough for such an upgrade?
What about the SD1 gearbox and the clutch? Will it withstand such an enormous power and torque?

Many thanks in advance for your answers!

In truth, no idea, but we've a few here that know about engine upgrades so one of them will be along shortly to help. I personally probably wouldn't go along the NOS route as although thats great for a quick squirt of extra power, there are other things you can do that would give you more power continuously, (e.g. plenums, cams etc).

As I said, someone that knows more will be along shortly..

Edited to add: Saw a dark blue V8S in Zurich when I was there last, about 4 years ago.. That was the one that finally stopped me thinking 'one day I'll have one' and I started the search when I got back home.. So, if thats not you, there was another one in Switzerland somewhere..

Sounds like you're after roughly 50% more power? The safest way to achieve that would be to get in touch with somebody like V8 Developments and ask them to supply a 300 bhp engine. With this much extra power and torque you should probably be considering upgrades to the clutch, gearbox, diff, half shafts, trailing arms, brakes, suspension. Alternatively, find somebody who has already done this and buy the car off them.

If you're looking for more sensible solutions it would almost certainly be cheaper just to trade for a car with a more powerful engine. A standard Griffith 500 won't quite achieve the sort of power levels you were after, but it comes close, the car would probably be more reliable and easier to insure. Sensible isn't always what this sort of thing is about though, is it?

PS: no, the green V8S isn't for sale!

Hi and welcome!

Unfortunately I have no experience with power upgrades of the V8S. But, at least I do have a V8S myself for a little more than half a year now and I absolutely love this car. The one that Psychobert spotted a couple of years ago is most probably mine (dark blue). The previous owner kept it for more than 10 years and lived around this area. Anyway I just wanted to drop a line and say hello – It’s good to know that the Swiss TVR community is growing!

Cheers from Solothurn

We are never happy are we?
The poor old Rover engine is a great classic engine but the cost of getting heaps of power out of it IMHO is prohibitive to all but the well heeled (or the people who can hide expenditure from the wife) , all I ever see on these forums is vast ammounts of money getting spent to get modest increases in BHP.

If all I cared about was power I'd sling in a yank engine, probably Ford Mustang 420BHP, £3200 out of the box.

i agree with gazman - the rover lump is old hat - it works well ,but a ls1 swap would be more powerful with much better reliability and life span - there is the £15000 problem to deal with or my car would already have one
