So, this new engine...
Discussion
Bought this New V6 cologne engine now with a veiw to a straight swap with my old one before to long.
It came with new injectors,Air meters,ECU...the lot really except manifold, alternator and flywheel to transfer from the current block.
Would you...
1/ Drop it in,flush it through, check rockers OK, refill with oil, check pressure and try it? OR...
2/Take the sump off to check all rust free and clean, the head off to check valves/pistons/springs/cam etc.etc. first?
It looks as clean as a new pin inside through the water pump and thermostat(To refit) and plenium, and as it has been stored from new, it ought to be OK to drop straight in, but would you???
I am not in a hurry to exchange them and do have a garage, but could resist pulling it apart and rebuilding it with the cost that incurs if opinion is that it should not be necessary.
What d'you think?
Cheers

If you're in no hurry to swap them over..
Whip it apart, upgrade everything and give yourself a few extra horses to play with when you've fitted it..
Then flog the old engine for someone else to strip down and do the same and it ought to cover most of the cost of the upgrades. Well, it probably won't, but thats what I'd tell the other half

Yep, Port the heads, drop a Kent 276 in, lihten and balance all the bits. ARP bolt the Con Rods. Bigger Injectors and a remap. Tell the other half it all needs to be done to make it "fit" and "more reliable". Sell old engine bits.
Think I am with Reb and Steve, Sump off and rockers.
Think the power of the Cologne can only be increased by so much, and by what I have seen on here then its not an engine with limitless possibilities for tuning without serious cost.
Reckon that the new unit, once run-in, could do with an Austec treatment and chipping, but think that would suffice.
I don't have big money to spend on upgrades for my 'S', just want to keep it in best possible order and restore the power and longevity a new engine should provide.
Don't tempt me!
