I have recently moved into a house where all the exterior doors are double glazed units – except the front door of course.

The problem I am having is that because of this we have no easy access route for the cat and having to keep an eye out for her constantly is driving me nuts!

A colleague mentioned that cat flaps can be put into double glazed windows (e.g. door into conservatory) but the whole unit has to be supplied by the factory as they will ensure it remains sealed.

Does anyone know if this is correct and how much it costs? The only other alternative I have is to go through the brickwork or the front door, both of which I would rather avoid.

This is a really daft problem to have and I realise is an odd question but any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Matt

We had a cat-flap installed in a double-glazed patio door when we had all our windows/doors replaced last year. You can't (as far as I know) cut the hole yourself but need a get the glass section replaced with one with the hole cut at manufacturer. We weren't changed any extra

Nope - I've read it and re-read it but I just can't see the TVR S Series connection here!

Why not save yourself all this cat flap related grief and kill your cat...get it stuffed and sit it on your window sill.
Everyday you could give it a stroke or a little cuddle and it would make no more demands on your time or money...then what you save on all that cat paraphenalia you could put towards buying a decent TVR S3....seems like a good plan to me....

That cat is wiping it's botty on your bonnet whilst contemplating having a good claw of your targa top...

What a fine pair of driving gloves you'd get out of that pelt...

Ah Meguiars, you know I'm addicted to the stuff

Hi Matt
As most plastic doors are just long windows the quickest way to solve your problem is to remove the lower section of glass , measure the opening and get your local plastic supplier to
cut you a plastic blank to fit , you or he could then just jig a hole to suit a catflap. Job done , or you could shoot the cat .
Assums you have plastic halfbar glazed back door .
