Sounds like a bargain!
I can't believe that the chassis would be irrepairable. Especially if it has been cherished garaged for the last 9 years. He may have taken it to an MOT garage that didn't know what they were looking at and the chassis may be OK? It's worth a look.
I can think of one or two who may well be already on their way up there as we speak, hence the lack of response so far.
In fact, what the hell am I still doing here??

Great project, keep us posted with how you get on. I took the engine and gearbox out of mine recently and had the gearbox reconditioned and put a new clutch in so if there's any related info you need just drop me a note.

I plan to sort out the chassis myself; anyone got any tips on removing the body?
Good luck,
Mark
As I am currently restoring my S2, I enquired about the cost of a new chassis from TVR and was quoted about £3,500. That was this summer. Needless to say I didn't bother, and have decided to have the rusty outriggers replaced with new 38mm CDS tubing.
I have just removed the body of my S2, (2 weeks ago) and the trick is to have about 6 or 7 large blokes around to help.
You need to remove all wiring including the reverse switch and speedo drive on the gearbox, remove the fuel tank & cradle, bonnet, and it helps to remove as much interior as possible to reduce the weight. KEEP THE ROOF UP as this helps to reduce flex in the floorpan and sills, then lift the rear of the body about 4.5 feet in the air, (to clear the rear suspension uprights) then slot the body backwards to clear the chassis tubes around the engine / gearbox, then lift the front of the body and roll the chassis out from underneath. Beware though, the fibreglass body is VERY heavy. It is possibly as heavy as if it were made of steel!

If you have a digital camera, how about keeping a journal of the restoration project to post on PH?
Thanks all for the info; I should be starting it in the New Year - wife permitting! I will be keeping the restoration documented on my website (when I get it up and running)
The general condition was very good - interior very clean with only the switch dash panel veneer peeling, body in good condition, some minor damage under the driving light on the near side, both the driving lights and headlights need replacing due to corrosion. Main area for concern is the chassis. Both outriggers are shot at the front and the off side rear trailing arm rusted through. The rest of the chassis looks solid. Other then that it's perfect!
Brother-in-law says its one of my better buys! Just got to convince the missus to let me keep it when its finished!

Nice one darren..... looks like you got the deal of the year. Get some piccies up for us to see. Is it your first TVR? Going to be interesting to see how much you can get it on the road for. After a let up in the weather, had a blat in mine last night.....boy does that thing go after driving my fiesta all week!
You might be able to get away without buying a new chassis, just replacing some some of it. let a specialist take a look at it, you could save a few bucks....welcome to pistonheads by the way......what these guys dont know aint worth knowing.....post away and keep in touch. Mark

Tower View Racing gave me a figure of £1800 plus VAT to remove the body, replace the outriggers and apply the appropriate rust treatment, and I can't see that figure increasing too much for the additional chassis work you need done.
That work, plus transportation plus the other bits and pieces you need to do would probably total £2500 - £3000. Add on the purchase price and it looks like you got yourself a real bargain!
Presumably, if you took the thing apart yourself and hired a trailer to take the chassis to them then you could reduce this to a fraction of the cost - good work

Darren,
Looks like the URL that you've listed in your profile needs the /index. removed or the htm extension added to work properly.
It certainly does look like you've picked up a pretty tidy example, body and interior wise. Don't forget to update this thread when you post more pictures on the site.
Good luck!
