Had to replace the throttle cable on my S3 yesterday, easy job so no complains. My only query was that I had to drill a hole through the nylon retainer at the throttle end as it was attached to the linkage with a small bolt and not by the ball and socket originally used on the Granada.I guess this is because the cable would not be long enough if the ball and socket conection was used.My advice to anyone who carrys a spare in their car is to pre drill this out as it will much easier to fit if yours breaks by the side of the road, and will avoid you trying to bore a hole in it with your keys if you dont have a drill handy..

I replaced mine at the side of the road with HarryW when we were in convoy up to Virginia Waters. Had to bore it out on the ground with a small screwdriver and then tidied it up later with a drill so as to fit in the little metal sleeve. It can stick open a little if the plastic hasnt got the sleeve inserted as a word of warning.

I have only just got around to buying a new spare cable and will be pre-drilling too.

My S2 has the ball and socket, but TVRMark's S3 doesn't. I suspect that TVR (or someone) may have changed it at some stage. So check it when you buy a spare cable.

Mmmmm,no metal sleeve in the old one so didnt fit the new one with a metal sleeve either, its quite lose on the bolt though as I used 2 nuts to lock it plus nut lock so it should swing free. Now seems to tick over at 1200 rpm though but I think I need to adjust the plastic screw connection at the throttle end a bit.

Correct. If they need to look on the microfiche, I usually tell the parts dept it's a 1990 V6 manual Granada (the auto cable has a "kick-down" switch and costs a packet - a friend with a 2.9 auto Middlebridge Scimitar tells me).

Always carry a spare cable, as they always go at the least convenient times - trackday, Le Mans, etc.

Yep - can confirm that part number. Don't know if its the case with all Ford dealers but my local ones dont stock the part and wanted payment before they would even order it in! So it means 2 trips for donkeys miles to order and then to collect.

I wondered if the bolt through was a custom thing done by a previous owner. The more I hear re lack of sleeve etc the more it makes me think this may be the case. It makes sense so as the angle of the cable at the throttle arm end is straighter and less liable to fraying. The metal sleeve is good as it means no chance of it catching on the bolt. The two bolts have been left fairly slack on mine.

In view of this....before drilling your spare cable, check how it is connected to the throttle arm I guess

Correction! It did have a bolt as I found out at the side of the road in Le Mans. It's know attached by the ball and socket, this has increased the pedal movement slightly but the cable works through a better angle.

I have seen no end of S's with this mod, I always put them back to how Ford intended and they work much better. They put more force on the mechanism if they have the bolt fitted, even seen a few with bent brackets as a result of this mod, the cable guide on all the cables I have bought is plastic with a nice lead in angle and will not fray the cable. The mod may however be due to the wrong cable being used as I have also seen some cars fitted with what looks like a standard cable but in fact shorter?

Cheers

IIRC the plastic socket on the last replacement cable I had (which was Granada one) was far bigger than the Ball on the throttle arm though

so do you have to use a different cable if you do want the ball/socket set up?

Better get one of those bad-boys ordered... is it just the one part (cable) that's required, or is there another bit?

wonder if I get Ford discount...?

bout £15. Ordered one last week as mine snapped about 3/4 months ago and just havent got around to it.

Interesting moment to be faced with when it snapped - overtaking at 80 ish on country lane and motorcycle appears from opposite direction (out of sight when started maneouvre) at 100+!!!!! fk
