Finally got around to removing this and using it to clutter the garage instead, replacing it with two cans of tyre-weld

To my amazement though, the wheel is not a manky steel one like you'd get on a eurobox, but a gun metal / graphite wolf race 7/8 spoke!

Is this the case for everyone?

mines the same - sporty alloy maybe but handling

I have got rid of mine and got some tyreweld in the glove box. May I ask why you have got 2 cans? I am a bit of a tyreweld novice and have only had cause to use it once.

I carry an air compressor too. The pressure contained in the can last time wasnt enough to inflate a lilo.

Only reasons I carry two is so I don't have to worry about buying a replacement when I have a puncture. Great God of Gaffa and all that!

Once I find a smaller compressor than my current one, I'll carry that too.

Tyreweld is great but if there is a gaping hole in the tyre it just won't work.I could never see the logic in a space saver, yes it takes up less space in the boot. But what do you do with the full size wheel when you take it off?

I carry the space saver and will aways carry it. Since driving I've had 4 flats. Which were 2 rear tyre blowouts one of which was in the TVR, tyreweld forget it. Clipped curb, buckled rim, tyreweld forget it. And a puncture tyreweld would have been OK.

The only time you need the space the space saver takes up, is on a long trip, is when you want the piece of mind of a spare.

Just a word of warning, if you have upgraded the front discs to a larger size (285mm) the space saver doesn't fit, so instead of changing that front flat on a cold dark windy night (probably raining too!) you will have to swap a rear wheel over to the front too, what fun!

Cheers

I had to use the space saver spare (Wolfrace) to limp back from Norfolk to London (at 50 mph) after busting a wheel and tyre. You also need a bin liner to put the wet muddy wheel in. Much preferable to hanging around in the middle of nowhere (in cold wind & rain) waiting for rescue.

I took one look at the space saver and thought "no thanks, don't fancy using that"... and bunged some tyreweld in the boot.

However, when just pootling locally, I probably will carry it anyway... longer trips may see in consigned to the garage...

Guess the best answer is to leave it there unless I need the luggage space then...

Now, where do I fit my new Alpine amp

When I get the S3 packed up for Le Mans there is definately no room for a spacesaver. I have carried two cans for ages now. If I do get a puncture - well thats what I pay a fortune to the AA for!
