buying an S series

Hi guys!
Looking for advice really. Got about 12k (well perhaps 13) and being completely ignorant about the S series would like to know what I can get for it--from the shop floor not a book--I want something raw noisy masculine and very fast. Any ideas (John Prescott would fit the bill apart from the very fast bit)

Now then, now then, I'm going to be honest here as one member has partly suggested, so don't jump down my throat after this please. I have spent the last year underneath my S and have enjoyed messing with it. Due to the condition of most of the parts it went in the garage in about august last year and has been there ever since. I have done numerous jobs which had to be done, partly because I like messing about with it and some I just had to do.
If someone gave me £12-13 grand tommorow I would scour the adds and buy a chimp or a griff.
Now it may be that you buy a minter S and you should be able to for that much money, so I suggest that you go and drive all three cars and see what you like.
But my experience has taught me that you should buy the newest car with the lowest miles and in the best possible condition and take someone with you who knows what they are doing!
Lastly, if you love working on cars (as I do) dont mind things going wrong on occasions, have an enormous tool kit, and have a angle grinder and mig welder, a local sand blaster, radiater re-core specialist, ect ect.
To sum it up, most people (not all) buy an S as a entry level into TVR, and some people will never sell them as they have spent all there time looking after them and they are part of the family. Good luck!

Bought mine as a trial to see if I could live with a TVR. Found I could but had my heart broken by a test drive with a crap Cerbie. So still got the S2 which I love the shape of.
Try before you buy I would have a full weekend test drive in any TVR that I was going to buy. Also buy warranty if you are not sure.

if you want something raw, noisy and fast, whats wrong with the 5 litre chimaera and M5 listed on your profile

Simple---it ain't for me. Its for a mate who's asked me to get him something for that price. Weighing everything up (thanks guys) I am opting for a pre-cat 4.3 which seems a nice compromise. Yes the 5L brings the heavens down (it has a sports exhaust) which made him envious in the first place. The BMW is a fast armchair---you seriously don't notice that you're doing 100+. But it is reliable and practical.
