Does anybody know what the rectangular window switches (1992 V8S) are from?

Are they still available, and who can supply them?

Sorry don't have any pictures to hand at the moment .

Cheers

I'm not sure where the originals are from..!

BUT

You can upgrade to Vauxhall Cavalier switches... then fit the silver Leven covers...

Check out Mike V8smiths pics.

Heres a pic not that good but should show what they look like?

If you just want the originals Larry I might have a pair lying around, will give me an excuse to find them as I was going to stick quite a few bits I have on Ebay?

I'm still looking for one, if Larry only needs one and you've still got them...

My 1991 S3C uses VW switches. I recognise mine from a mk3 Golf.

Thanks guys

One switch is not working, and the other feels as though it is on it's way out?

Mike - was it an easy upgrade to the Cavalier type. I guess the wiring to an electric window switch cannot be to complicated. For now a pair of originals would be great. I assume that the holes for the alternative switches were different shape/size - although I guess if you installed when you re-covered the centre panel this would be hidden etc.

Silverback - VW switches..... I have still not worked out where mine are from. I had thought they may be Ford??

As Pies says they are a straight swap and they fit the hole no problem, mine needed a little widening around the middle? Same connections at the back, believe me Larry if I can do it, its easy

Will try to dig them out this weekend.

Must admit I thought the S switches were Alfa derived

Pretty sure I've got some Vauxhall switches somewhere... if you're interested I'll dig 'em out...

If any body has a spare set of Chimaera or griffith style, I would be happy to take them off their hands ?

I have now decided to upgrade rather than replace with original switches.

I found two second-hand switches at a local auto parts stockists for £9 (Marked as 'Astra 3'). Local Vauxhall garage could supply new ones at £30/ea VAT for Cavalier, although look to be the same as those bought?

Just need to sort out which wire does what ?

Seems to be rather a lot of wires just for a switch?

6 Wires in all:

(1) Brown
(2) Black
(3) Grey with Green Line
(4) Grey with Green Line & Black bands
(5) Blue with Red Line
(6) Blue with Red Line & Black bands

Any ideas any one?

I think I better go and buy some fuses just in case

Cheers

Happy New Year All!

I have spent two frustrating afternoons trying to wire up my new window switches. I have found out the following:

(1) My fuse board layout does not resemble any diagrams in 'The Bible'!

(2) Wiring colour coding appears to be random!

(3) Eight 15A fuses was not enough!

I appear to have the following wires on the existing switches (top of switch down):

(a) Yellow (believed to be +ve [UP] when switched)
(b) Blue (constant live)
(c) Blue/Red (Illumination +ve when lights switched)
(d) Yellow/Green (believed to be +ve [DOWN] when switched)
(e) Two Black each side of switch (believed to be earth [UP] and earth [DOWN])

(See previous post for new switch wires colours)

I can't work it out I have tried various different combinations.

Pies/Mike - I don't suppose you made a note of which new switch wires go to which existing wires when you upgraded?

Help......

Larry
