Are you sure its the rack and not the column UJ's...?

Yes good suggestion, I attended to that first - I have stripped and replaced the column bearing and joints which are now all spot on.

The play is very visible in the track rod end as it comes out of the rack itself. I'm going to pop the boot off to see if there's any adjustment to be had - but it is more likely the bushes in the end that are gone.

I was suprised to find a problem when the service history came with a bill for a new rack a couple of MOT's ago.

If its worse than you think, there's an add for a rack in the clasifieds www.pistonheads.com/sales/58753.htm £80 for the rack.

I had half a dozen made.. Call in a favour from a local company.

I've since sent out a few to other Phers and supplied David Batty with 3 for his future use...

If you give him a call and mention me... He will send one on if he hasn't used them..!

I still have the 2D and CAD model drawing if you need it..
