Can any one point me in the right direction to find a where I can buy some new front brake disc's and pads for my S2 at a reasonable price. (I do not like using the local Ford dealers as they always seem to get thing wrong). My old ones are not drilled or grooved, but it may a nice idea to upgrade to this if possible.
Any ideas and approx price would be greatly appreciated !!!!!!!
Thanks

Take the wheel off and measure the diameter of the disk, and the offset between the disk and the mounting flange, and the thickness of the disk. Then go down your favorite local motorfactors and ask for a pair of for disks with those dimensions, if they get stuck tell them probably XR3i 1990 vintage. When you've taken the old ones off the car compare old and new side by side to make sure they really identical. Re pads, the calipers and disks on mine come off the same car so once you've identified the disks you have got the calipers and hence pads too. Once again check old and new pads side by side to ensure they're an exact replacement, if not then draw an outline of the old pads (backplate and friction material), and go back to the motorfactors for the right ones. Make sure the pads are a fast road compound not just standard road pads, this may mean you can't get them from just any old motorfactors. (I posted the part numbers for Mintex 1144 and Tarox XF pads I've used on the front of mine on Pistonheads not long ago, a search should turn them up.)

Alternatively get your credit card out and ring any dealer/specialist and you can be pretty confident you're getting the right parts, although ther may be some markup.

Hope this helps,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

(I assume you know how to change them.)

They are Serria brakes, I think all Serria disk & pads fit. I have fitted 2.0 1990 pads before now.

Yes but which one of the 10 or so different variations that there are? This is a perennial problem especially on the Griff and Chimaera where there are large variations. All that is needed is for the offset to be off by a couple of mm and there is a major problem!

Best advice is measure and check.

I recently put grooved & spotted (not drilled) discs on the front with green stuff pads.

Good improvement over ordinary, no noise & no dust... ive even taken off the crappy dust guards.

Total cost was £129 supply only

Mine turned out to be 2.0i Sierra discs from 1990

I was surprised by these when I first bought my car - dont they hinder cooling of the discs?

Is the dust that bad when they are taken off with "standard" discs? I need new discs soon anyway but might whip these off anyway at the weekend depending on peoples comments

I did the same with mine (also 2.0 sierra).. I used www.rmcarspares.co.uk/ and would reccommend the service from them..

Cheers
