Lots of S3 Questions...
Discussion
Hi,
I''ve had my S3 for a few months now and am starting to get that upgrade feeling... Does anyone have any experience or advice concerning making it go faster and stop faster? I don''t want to go all ''Max Power'', just tweaky sort of things. It is currently fairly standard with a TVR fitted (leaky)stainless steelexhaust.
Also, it currently has SO2s but I am thinking of going back to a tyre available in 60 profile (probably RE71s). At the moment it grounds out on bumpy roads when 2 up, and I thought that a less sticky tyre might give the car a more ''playful'' character. While the S02s are great, I wonder if the car really has enough power to merit them?
Any comments greatfully received...
Charlie.
I'm in the market to change tyres at the moment. I have RE71's on my S1.5 and although they are OK in the dry they are ****e in the wet. Everyone here will tell you that S02's are the best thing since sliced bread for a TVR. If they were available in 60 profile then I would definitely change to them.
The current thinking is Yokohamas. Either the a520's or the newer a539's. But again these do not come with great recommendations of their performance in the wet.
If you are talking about upgrading the car anyway you could look at an adjustable supsension set up and therefor could run 55 profile tyres as you can adjust the ride height. On the S3 you can do this without upsetting the rear wheel camber.
As for brake upgrades then you should go through previos posts on this group. Plenty of chat on that subject.
As for engine upgrades, it depends largely on what you want to get from the engine. Undoubtedly there is plebty of scope to upgrade power with cams and chips and all sorts, but you must remember that along with this you may find other components in the drive train/running gear need upgrading aswell.
Good Luck with it all though...
Cheers
Mark
I recently changed the tyres on my S3, when I got it it had some crappy general tyres on it, they were absolute crap in the wet and they were rock hard so they never really got up to any temperature. I've now changed them for Avon ZV1's which have loads more grip in the wet, are available in 60 profile and were about £60 each. Might be worth considering.
Happy hunting!
quote:Easy. Here is your upgrade plan: Step 1: a V8. Step 2: big brakes. Step 3: new half shafts. Step 4: poly bushes all round. Step 5: roll over bar and full harness. Step 6: fire extinguisher. Step 7: tune the V8 Step 8: new half shafts (again). Step 9: new diff. Step 10: a bigger V8 (4.6). Step 11: new diff. Step 12: bigger brakes. Step 13: really huge brakes. Step 14: new custom diff. Step 15: toughened 'box. Step 16: new high tensile half shafts. Step 17: race dampers and springs. Step 18: new trailing arms. Step 19: don't know yet. It will cost three or four times what the car is worth, hope that is OK. Or you could simply save up and trade it for a Griffith! Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S, more or less standard ...

quote:(so that'd be the cigar lighter that's still standard would it?) And when I had my griff it'd be a case of: well these brakes are better than the old S3 but I'm sure bigger discs would be a great improvement... It feels bloody quick but a bit of time on a rolling road would really get the lump singing... etc etc. I think i'll take some of your suggestions and apply to existing hardware instead. Or maybe just fit some Kwik Fit Tyres and go sliding all over the place; £60 buys you all four corners after all... Cheers, Charlie.
