Well, after my S had spent a fortnight sat in my garage looking sorry for itself, I finally got chance on Saturday to find and rectify the starter problem..
Turned out just to be the ignition wire had sheared in it's crimp on the solenoid terminal. Easily fixed. But not before I'd anticipated a right old palava and bought meself a new multimeter for the proceedings.. any excuse
Well, once the car was started and my victory jig complete, I simply had to take the car out for a quick run - antisocially noisy exhaust or not.. it was a lovely dry afternoon and there were some cobwebs to be blown away..
Roof off, fleece on: Off I toddled... after a couple of miles I really was beginnning to think " Weeeeellllllll.. it's not *really* that loud is it"
I can drive it through urban areas without drawing undue attention should I so desire, by keeping the revs right down..except for that nice tunnel under the railway at Worting where 2nd gear and hard on the hammer is the only way forwrd
So after a mere 20 mile blat round the hamlets on the outskirts of Basingstoke, giving it a bit of large and distressing children and animals with my outburst in the tunnel, I returned home with a massive grin on my face - Marvellous..
Shame, then that the weather on Sunday precluded me from washing it and it still looks the worse for wear after Anglesey..
Anyway, I've decided I can live with restricting myself to some short weekend blasts until I've got the money together for some suspension and exhaust work.
Anyone who's still wondering if they should buy an S - do it now!
Anyone thinking of laying their S up for the winter - don't do it - it'd be criminal not to use the thing!
