its MOT time shortly. My fog light has not worked since buying my S3. Having recently searched the S series forum for some tyre advice, I have noticed that the previous owner of my car was a resident on here (s3 Bob). Please see the following thread

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?f=11&h=0&t=679

I have no fog light at all since buying the car and David Batty thought maybe the switch itself was buggered. However, having read this thread, me thinks there may be more to it. Cant see anything in the bible to do with this problem. Can anyone help me out with some pointers? I can barely access the bloody back of the switch by taking the stereo out and groping around with my fingers mungo style.

Hiya

My fogs were both shot when I bought mine 2 years ago (along with lots of other things ;-) ) and it turn out to be 1) dodgy lamp fittings in the cluster, 2) an earth fault in the offside cluster, 3) iffy contacts on the switch. Having read that link, is your fault the real fog light dont work, or the interior warning light?

Cheers

cheers Rod - problem is both

I dont think there is any warning light to show the fogs are on (although as they havent worked since I got the car this may not be true - although I am confident there is no warning light as cannot see anything that would illuminate other than the lights that do already)

I definately have no working fog lights. Ok, I think the first stop is going to be having a look at the rear of the switch and maybe try replacing it.

Can anyone tell me if there is a better way of getting to it rather than via the hole where the stereo can be taken out? you cannot see the rear of the switch at all this way and I cannot see how an earth you could remove it to replace it.

Phil

edited to add - Rod - where do you get your S MOT'ed?

Sorry for the delay mate, I've been tied up with a blown water system (in the car :-)

Had it done in two seperate places now, once at a local colege where they teach motor mech (the head teacher is the father of a mate of mine, and by Ford in Chandlers Ford. The best job was by the college where they checked absolutely everything I can tell you, but ford was also very efficient
