On Friday my tame local mechanic got confused about opening the bonnet on my S1 and gave the red lever (the boot release, dummy!) a good hard yank and pulled the nipple off (ooh matron). So the question is; what cable does the job - sierra or granada bonnet release or what?

Might be of some help - just going to renew the boot release on my '89 S2. It came from a Sierra. Picked up a new one from a Ford dealer, Part Number 6552760, cost 14.21 inc VAT. Thats the red lever and cable. I only have to replace the lever - do you know a good way to run in the cable, as far as I can tell it runs inside the fibreglass bodywork? Can you not solder on a new nipple or possibly "bodge" it with an electrical terminal bar from an electricians chocolate strip (if you pardon the expresion)?

The cable runs down the O/S sill and up and over the wheel arch and into the boot (under the carpet) Cheers Lee

Thanks for that. A bit late as I have already ordered one from those friendly guys at Peninsular. Not cheap, but what can you do? Hopefully I can feed the inner through without too much stress. I am not sure what the routing is... by the way, Steve Heath's book is correct, you can open the boot thru the number plate light aperture.

TVOE - part no. 6552760 - the cable itself is not long enough. Looks like a TVR part is the solution. GBP 34 + VAT + P&P.
