Silicone rocker cover gasket
Discussion
Hi Guys,
My faithful S3C is oil leaking one's again. Rocker cover gaskets was replaced 5 years ago and has to be replaces another time.
Does anybody try to use silicone gasket to replace cork ones ? Fel-Pro seems to produce quality gaskets for the 2.9L with the reference VS50312T .
These gaskets are very expensive (£50+) compare to cork but seems to have good reputation in USA on 2.9L Bronco II trucks.

A few owners on the FaceBook group are using these . . . . .

When I was in the trade rocker cover gaskets were never re-used. If you are servicing your car annually including doing the valve clearances you should be fitting new gaskets.
I have the rubber gaskets and they are more durable, been off and on a few times and still oil tight (I think alloy rocker covers helps, they don't distort like the steel ones).
S3C has a 2.9L engine. Heads are different from 2.8L engines and rocker covers also. Rubber gaskets are no more available for 2.9l engines. My engine has hydraulic cam followers, so I don't have to check and adjust valve clearance every year, especially as I drive this car around 2000-3000 miles a year.
The Fel-Pro gasket is not a simple rubber one. First of all, it's made in silicone, not in rubber, and there is a metal frame in it for rigidity.
I bothered with oil leaks from the rocker covers on my Minis during years and years. I bought the first one 24 years ago. And since silicone gasket are available for A-series engine, I never had to replace one anymore... and no leak.... from the rocker cover.... of course.

Hydraulic valve lifters make servicing easy.
2.8 heads are very different but rocker covers and gaskets are same apart from 2.9 has one more screw. You may need to punch an extra hole in the gasket.
Can you put up a link to the Fel Pro gaskets?

No 2.8l and 2.9l gaskets are not compatible even if they look very similar. Just enough difference to leak.
