Yes you can insure them as classics, or if they're under 10 years old as 'future' classics, get a quote from soemone like ClassicLine, you may be pleasantly surprised.
If you are thinking of getting one then I can recommend buying Steve Heaths (shpub) S series book, it gives you the low down on each model and what to look for when buying, worth a read.
All S's are quick enough and have generally good handling, which if you follow posts on here can be tweeked to give very good handling.
As an affordable entry into Tivs there's a lot to be said for S's, the V6 is stock ford and is cheap to maintain, if you have a fair mechanical knowledge it's basically a good DIY car if thats your bent.
As you say you're looking towards the end of next summer, in which case you have the time to do plenty of research and come to some of the PH meets to sight some cars. When the time comes you'll know the 'right' car when you see it, happy hunting.

Cheers harry , ive always been a bike nut but since ive been on Ph for nearly a year i can hear a tvr calling out to me modern cars do nothing for me , if i buy a car it has to be RWD and i cant think of anything better than a tiv , i can live with reliabilty problems if a car makes me smile

Dennis,
As Harry says the S bible will give loads of info. In summary S1s had 2.8l engines, S2 and S3 used 2.9. All engines can take unleaded, S2 also had some trim differences and minor changes (there were some cars that were built in the change over, these are often known as S1.5). S3 had longer doors and different dash layout, again many variations such as bonnet etc.
Key point is to take each car on its own merits, there are some S1s around in better condition than some neglected S3s. All the V6 engined cars are great fun.
If you have more questions please post away.
Cheers,
JSG.

Cheers JSG , i WILL be getting a TVR sometime next year even if i have to give up biking for a month or two ! thanks for clearing up the s2 s3 thingy , the reason for getting an s series tvr is the ford mechanicals easy to fix etc , you can even fix them with a hammer and also i think it will give me some driving pleasure last thing i want is abs atcbss etc getting in the way , so i want somthing that has minimal driver aids to spoil the fun hence buying a tvr , at least peter wheeler understands what drivings all about and doesnt fit his cars with numptie aids
speak to you all next week
Cheers

Dennis, try a Wedge too! I had an S.2, which was good fun, but needed supple joints to get into. Every one I tried had door hinge sag, and my girlfriend cried whenever I took her out in it! So, to keep the peace, I sold it...then I had to buy something to replace it! After looking at all options for my cash, I bought a 350i Wedge. It cost me less than I made on the S.2 and is a far better car to my mind and engine spares will be around longer than the Ford ones.
