Can anyone tell me who manufactured the rev counter fitted to the S and where it gets its feed? Looks like I have to start over in terms of getting it working....

shnozz,
I was having a word with john mac yesterday about my rev counter. His had a wire coming directly from the coil that was loose, causing a problem. He refixed it, the rev counter started working again.

No good for me, I don't have a coil in the place where his was. Bummer.

John has given me some fine words of wisdom over the years

The rev counter hasnt worked for a while in the S and its part of the winter jobs to do. I confess I have absolutely no idea how it works....

If you have a conventional single ignition coil then the rev counter would normally be connected to the ground side of the coil. If you have multiple coils then you're on your own, sorry!

That's where Johns S2 and my S3C differ.
Apparently the rev counter works from the same widget that the speedo works from, to the nearside of the gearbox.....allegedly (s3c)

Hi shnozz,

Try googling for 'Ford EDIS' - Electronic Distributorless Ignition System. Whilst the tacho signal for the 12v comes from the coil, the signal for the 24v appears to come from the EDIS module.

I'm not sure whether a feed from the relevant terminal of the EDIS module would get the Tiv rev counter working. There may be incompatability issues between inputs and outputs (voltage drop / frequency etc).

If you haven't tried already, its worth posting the question on Interford. I'm sure this is not the first time this issue has arisen....

I think the instruments may be made by 'Stewart Warner' who operate under the 'Maxima' brand in the states now. I would look at the 'Datcon' website who are connected to the same firm and use 'Fozmula Ltd' based in Leamington Spa as the distributor. 01926 450473.

The rev counter in my S1 is wired in the same way as the old rovers were wired in that main ignition feed goes through the guage and monitors the current fluctuations caused by the coil discharging rather than the more conventional method of picking up the voltage pulses on the -ve connection on the coil. Good luck !
