Has anyone tried this, or any other similar additives?
Do they work?

Oil companies employ thousands of chemists and do lots of research, to develop oils with the correct balance of polymer chains, lubrication properties, heat resistance, dirt retention, etc, for various different operating characteristics.

Personally, I believe that's enough. Why chuck in a tin of something else that's untested with that oil, and might or might not make a difference? It's cheaper (and IMHO safer) to buy a better quality tested oil in the first place.

It seems to me a bit like getting a top chef to cook you a perfect meal and then chucking in a tin of Heinz just to spice up the sauce a bit.

I've read nothing but bad things about slick 50 and would go so far as to avoid a car that's had it added.

It's worse than useless. Luckily the oil filter will strip most of it out fairly quickly so you will just clog the filter rather than do anything more expensive.

been doing a bit of research on this and
one interesting quote
is
In defense of Slick 50, tests done on a Chevy 6 cylinder engine by the University of Utah Engineering Experiment Station found that after treatment with the PTFE additive the test engine's friction was reduced by 13.1 percent, the output horsepower increased from 5.3 percent to 8.1 percent, and fuel economy improved as well. Unfortunately, the same tests concluded that "There was a pressure drop across the oil filter resulting from possible clogging of small passageways." Oil analysis showed that iron contamination doubled after the treatment, indicating that engine wear increased (Rau).
