My car has suddenly developed the problem of 'crunching' gears when changing down from 3rd to 2nd (doesn't happen at slow speeds) - synchro issue? I had thought it was down to sloppy driving at first but it's happened 6 or 7 times now. I've had a look in the bible and it says it could be caused by lack of oil and makes it sound as if it could be a terminal problem. Would anyone know of any other reason/cure for this? I haven't had a chance to check the oil level as yet!

clutch drag
old/low oil - try moly treatment
worn remote linkage
dead gearbox

any of the above

if it's any consolation i'm just changing the remote and oil on mine as the shift from 3rd to 4th is poor
otherwise i'll be joining you in the gearbox swapping lark

Replace clutch fluid. I was told by my local dealer it should be done once a year on the V8S. When you think about it the clutch slave is very close to the exhaust.
