Trouble ahead...

Sorry to say this is my first post and I am after advice, however it is on behalf of a friend who has recently inherited a V8S from his father. With being a fairly old chap himself he is not too computer literate so said I would try and help.

The trouble that he is having is that the battery is flat and the boot pop no longer works so no possible access. Tried bump starting down the road but to no avail, is there a way of jump starting through the engine bay?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

If you put a live battery connection to the big connection on the back of the alternator, AND THEN a good earth from the jump start battery to the chassis, it should jump start (or at worst, give enough power to pop the boot so you can jump start to the battery).

When you take the jump leads off, take the earth off first.

Thank you very much for the speed of reply, I will be popping round to his this weekend to see if we can get him back on the road as its his pride and joy! Not sure whether the boot pop is a different problem or developed when he lost the battery charge but I am sure I will find out,

I wouldn't advise trying to jump start from the back of the alternator but it's a good way to provide enough power to pop the boot release.

Thanks for the help, got her going by putting a battery charger across the alternator for a while and lo and behold she growled away! However the boot pop is not working so electrical fun it is next,

Glad you have got the battery charged up again. There are several avenues you can explore if the boot still won't open. As long as the solenoid is working and the wiring to it from the fusebox is intact, you should be able to get in without any trouble.

Why not (not challenging, just curious - I can't see any downside, it's the other end of the same cable that's connected to the car's own battery...)

The cable to the Alternator has a much lower current rating than the main power cable from the battery to the starter motor.

upon finding the right fuse/relay going to send a current down to the pop to see if the solenoid works then go from there,
