Clutch master cylinder
Discussion
OK guys I'm after some help.
Bought my car a couple of years back, an S1.5, this car has a 'long pedal box' in it...guessing it was specified by the original tall purchaser?
I replaced my clutch master about 2 years ago with a wilwood 0.7 as I'd noticed a very slight seep into the cabin, a drop or two on the pedal. I just replaced like-for-like thinking this was likely to have been the original as it had a genuine 27K on the odometer.
After only about 3k it was seeping again in the same place. I replaced with a new wilwood master again also fitted a new slave and braided line from master to slave...might as well once your in there...as well as flipping the new slave so the new one bled from the top!
After about 300 miles the master is seeping again from the same point and the DOT4 is very grey. Specs on wilwood say DOT3 but should be backwards compatible. Pulled it out and stripped it. Looks like the internal alloy cylinder has slightly worn at 11 o'clock and 6 o'clock.
What do you think is causing this? My best guess is the 'long pedal box' is causing the clutch master push rod to be misaligned and causing the wear via the clutch master piston?
All advice gratefully received as ever.

The original master cyl is a Landrover part as shown on the Parts List PDF at the top of the page.
It's currently shown on island-4×4.co.uk at (from) £8.40 plus VAT. It's the one I fitted to mine: no problems.
As I recall, the pushrod is a loose ball fit in the back of the piston, so no misalignment is possible.
Good luck!

Guys thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I've ordered a Girling one which should be with me in the next couple of days and a longer push rod to see if I can get a better alignment. Hopefully this will solve the problem.
Mentall, yes the push rod is a loose ball and cup fit to the back of the piston so like you I thought that a small angle would make no difference but according to the witness marking inside the cylinder something funky is going on.
Thanks again and I'll update either way.
