V8S - Serpentine or non-serpentine
Discussion
This question has probably been asked 1000s times, so apologies in advance. I find the search function pretty useless, or maybe it's just me..
Anyway... is the V8 in the V8S serpentine or non-serpentine? How can you tell? And what exactly is the difference?
(reason I am asking, that when looking for parts, I see "for pre serpentine....", and I'm like........eh... I don't know... :-0
(1992 V8S)
Also, do you know if the ignition coil is ballast or non-ballast type? (This I do know what it means. :-) )
Thanks

The standard V8S engine is preserpentine. You can recognise it by the V belt driving the alternator and water pump. If you're asking for parts, you can refer to it as a 'Range Rover Classic 3.9'.
Later Griffiths and Chimaeras had what TVR called a serpentine engine. You can recognise it by the flat poly-V belt driving the alternator and water pump. Strictly speaking this is a serpentine/intermediate engine. The fully serpentine engine has a different front cover without a distributor.
