The petrol senders on an S1 are stewart Warner 385 B or C the B denotes left hand side and the C right, on mine when I got it out it said 385BF if your not as lucky when you get it out take a measurement between the holes there are 2 which are further apart know hold the sender in front of with the float furthest away like you are looking at it on the tank with the widest holes at the bottom the float will be on the left or right hand side,S W still make a replacement for these
I got mine when a friend went to the USA he telephoned a company called Speedway Motors they are nation wide in the USA paid for it got it delivered to where he was staying in 3 or 4 days in the suitcase and home all for $46.23 Note they don't come with a new locking ring or sealing ring ( Racing Green supplied them to me for £12.04) Fitting easy some adjustment on the float arm for correct levels on the gauge had it 6 months on the road no problems

Hope this is some help to some one if they know some one going to the USA for a holiday or can Search Speedway Motors on line.

Looks like that sender has five fixing holes for some little screws but you fitted yours with a locking ring?

Just to be clear, to the best of my knowledge the 'standard' arrangement on the S1 is with a Landrover type sender held in place by a lock ring fitted into a housing soldered to the tank. It often needs two sealing rings or one ring plus Loctite 574 sealant to get a good seal.
I say 'standard' because early S1's (pre about June 88) were still developing and are not all the same.

Mine already came with locking rings and yes It has No5 holes but none on the tank the 5 holes on the sender had been filled with some kind of resin, with the new one I just done the same it only needed N01 new gasket and I added Hylomer blue sealant around the gasket and a new locking ring no leaks as yet, mine was first registered 8/1988

Look like yours has an early type intended for screw fitting but soldered on?
I am afraid blue Hylomar has now been shown to fail with even 5% ethanol fuel. Unless you are able to keep it ethanol free (which isn't practical in many areas) the Hylomar gradually softens to a milky fluid. Practical tests were done with several sealants in E fuel and, so far, Loctite 574 is the only one to retain its integrity.
(One advantage of the lockdown was that tests were left for over a year)
Of course if the single 'rubber' ring is really proving the seal the Hylomar on the outside wont dissolve!
