TVR SCH 2023 S CLUB HEAVEN: UPDATE 17.12.22 :ACCOMMODATION
Make sure the dates are in your diary; SCH2023 is on 23/24thSeptember.
We decided to see if we could offer hotel accommodation at one place for all who needed it, and also to try to provide an opportunity for all attending to share a Saturday night meal together. I am indebted to Nick Moffat for doing the ‘legwork’ on this, it has proved more complex/frustrating than we would have expected! Regrettably we do not have the resources to make a block booking or pay up front as a company could.
The best option is for us to concentrate on Sedgebrook Hall, a venue well received by those who chose it last year. Sedgebrook has enough rooms, the opportunity for a meal, including those who do not stay there, and good car parking. At present it is competitively priced. However that price can be expected to change, we cannot, at this stage get them to hold it.
Sedgebrook is 9.2 miles away on largely country roads. Mileage could be extended on the way back Saturday night for those who want a bit of fun!
The current price, quoting for 2 night for 2 people, double or twin room, with breakfast included through Booking.com, is £261. If you have a Booking.com ‘genius’ account the current figure is £235. Those booking do not need payment in advance and can be cancelled up to 18th September.
IF you want hotel accommodation, what we would now like people to do is make a booking as soon as they can. When you make that booking please add TVRCC to your name and let me know you have made that booking. We will use that information in further discussions with the hotel.
This is of course entirely OPTIONAL, you can make your own alternative hotel arrangements or camp at Sywell as before.

SCH S CLUB HEAVEN 2023 SEVEN MONTHS TO GO!! 23/24th September, Sywell Classic, near Northampton.
OK Folks, make sure that is in your diaries. The big annual gathering of S cars and enthusiasts. Extremely well received event last year and reported in detail in Sprint February edition.
Is it in your diary now.....??
If you want more details you easily SEARCH back on this site by going to the Q at the top of this site and typing 'SCH 2022' for all the details from last year or 'SCH2023' for the initial proposals this year.
Our separate site specifically for SCH is NOT in use any more.
A reminder on accommodation. Entirely your own choice, there are a good number of hotels locally and camping on site (as a group if there is demand) is still on. However from last years experience we are encouraging members who want hotel advice to book at the Sedgebrook Hall Hotel, a number of us have already done so.
Apart from the focus on the S cars we will also be representing, and supported by, the TVRCC. There will be a limited group of selected other models of TVR (at least two of those places have already been taken by former S owners!!), and I guess I will have to do a reserve list dependent on the space we are allocated.
It would help me to get provisional bookings started now.
Can I ask you to PM me with all the following (sorry I do need these details for the group booking); Name, S type (or other TVR model if you are applying to be in the select group), registration number, mobile phone number, email address (needed when the passes are sent out and so much easier for me to communicate updated info by email), Saturday,Sunday or both days, camping at Sywell/Sedgebrook Hall/other accommodation.
I am waiting for confirmation of the highlights (of the airshow in particular) which will vary at the Sywell Classic this year. The evening entertainment, for those who will be staying on site, features the band 'Gladness' a Madness tribute band.
I will also need some help so offers gratefully received.
PLEASE; can we start planning 2024. These days a choice of venue, initial planning and a person to provide the lead, needs to be identified well before this years SCH.
Who will be the first to PM me??????

Please don't make that assumption!
There'll be lots of S owners who detest Facebook and all its works, but who haven't replied to you because they can't come or don't want to come to SCH for their own good reasons (like me: car is not currently on the road).
Very good luck with SCH: you're doing a great job (Facebook notwithstanding)!

Well said. Dangerous assumption. I detest Facebook and think it’s a pile of horse dung for structured archiving etc. I know there are plenty more like us (not least Joe) who share that view.. I’m only on Facebook to see if I miss anything, but I’d rather not be frankly

I don't post very often on here, but appreciate the ease of doing so when I want to and also the ease at which I can access my own 'bookmarks' going back to Sept 2003!
A word in the ear of the anti facebook brigade. You are failing to face reality. Canute didn't succeed either.
When I see someone using derogatory words for Facebook it does suggest to me either they do not understand or cannot deal with more modern 'technology'. I am almost 76, I have been on here longer than anyone who posted above and have posted far more. However reluctantly, I have had to move on and use FB extensively.
First of all the anti FB brigade need to recognise some facts:
FB is THE most widely used social media, and FB messenger one of the most popular ways of communicating these days. We may not all like it but that is a fact.
Most people use FB for contact with friends and family, as well as for information and interaction on one or more groups they belong too. So accessing FB is routine for most people these days. Despite being at the older end of the age spectrum, ALL my family and all but two friends are on FB. (both are OAP's who have opted not to embrace 'new technology')
Most FB members access the site every day. Indeed most have it on their phones and get a notification every time there is a FB item likely to be of relevance to them. I am not particularly keen on people living by their phones but my view is of little relevance, widespread use of phone apps is a fact of life.
PH is largely limited to one interest. Few people will now check PH every day.
Then consider the profile of S owners. There are still a handful my age but it is very evident that the age spectrum has become younger (not exactly young, but younger than it was 15 years ago!). Even those attending SCH demonstrate this. Lots of 'new' people have bought S cars, lots more S cars are being brought back to life my 'new' enthusiasts. With very few exceptions these people are on FB already and see joining the FB group as the natural thing to do. There are now 1700 people on that group, and new names join every single day. Of course they do not all actually own an S at the moment and of course they are not all active but that is now where the majority of S owners do go for information.
If we are to support the marque, and the 'new' owners, then like it or not it will have to be primarily through FB.
PH has dwindled considerably even over the last few years. How often do you see a new name these days? there are far less posts on PH these days. We now have the situation where the majority of the experienced members do not go onto PH regularly so there is less advice available. For example, only 5 ago we would post the annual SCH information on her as a priority and we would get a majority of names from people who are on PH. Last year I think only one name came from PH.
Of COURSE PH was a good form of archive for information. But it did have its limitations. Unless you know PH and the thread titles are specific enough it can be a bugger to find stuff and it is particularly difficult to pick up which is the latest information. The inexperienced can very often be misled by finding a post not knowing it has been superseded.
There is another and regrettably increasing problem with PH. As an archive becomes outdated it becomes an unreliable and potentially misleading source of information. New information DOES come to light especially new methods, new materials, new suppliers, new specialists. I have been involved with TVR since 1965 and with the S since 2004 and I learn something new from FB every week.
A few PH people criticise FB because it is hard to search for information. Yes, it was never set up to prioritize that function but there is a Q function top right of our FB page. But just like PH it does take a bit of experience to get the best out of it. There are also several experienced owners/enthusiasts on FB who do know how to access appropriate old PH threads and will help a new owner by providing a link. By all means come on FB and do exactly that, it might keep PH relevant a bit longer. If you want to slag off Facebook then you are wasting your time and doing no favours to S enthusiasts.
Of COURSE we would all like to keep a single archive for all S information. But who would maintain it and where would it be accessed from by the average owner? Simply not realistic.
So I will repeat; If we are to support the marque, and the 'new' owners, then like it or not it will have to be primarily through FB.
(Later today I will post an update on SCH 2023! )

S CLUB HEAVEN 2023 5 MONTHS TO GO!! September 23/24th
Forgive me for repeating some information, there are S owners who are interested who have not been to an S Club Heaven meet before.
This is the annual meet which allows owners and enthusiasts to get together chat and compare cars! It is fairly informal and always welcoming. We try to stage it at an event where there is something worthwhile going on to interest members. We have deliberately used a location where partners should also feel welcome.
After a successful and enjoyable event in 2022 we are returning by popular request to the Sywell Classic (Pistons and Props) see http://www.sywellclassic.co.uk/. An increasingly popular event.
The location is Sywell Aerodrome, East Midlands, just NE of Northampton. The location is pretty easy to access from the M1, from north or south, and from the M6
The event has a variety of attractions;
The main building is a preserved Art Deco aerodrome built in 1928 and an attraction in itself, with drinks in the period lounge or on the lawn!
All sorts of racing vehicles are sprinted on the airstrip (from vintage 50cc motorcycles through full race cars to American dragsters). There is good access to the paddock.
There is an air show every day and usually the Battle of Britain memorial flight. The airshow changes each year so if you came last year it will still be fresh.
Large numbers of vehicle club stands (we will be the TVR CC stand)
A ‘village’ of stalls including car boot, childrens play facilities, a vintage market and a variety of food vendors
Entertainment, and some dancing, in large marquees/hanger.
Saturday evening entertainment/bar/dancing in a large converted wartime hanger
There is slight effort at a vintage theme but it has not become a true vintage event and, for example, few people dress up.
A small but excellent RAF museum on site.
There are quite a number of hotels within 6 miles of the site and you are quite free to make your own choice. However a number of us have decided to concentrate on the Sedgebrook Hall. Please see additional information at the top of this page re accommodation. Book as soon as you can as hotels do fill up for this popular event. We are also hoping to stage a group meal at the Sedgebrook Hall on the Saturday night.
The organisers provide a good temporary campsite immediately opposite the airfield, with good quality trailer toilets and showers. Site is available from Friday afternoon to early Monday morning if needed. So can be one, two or three nights. It does need booking as soon as you can. Please see their site for costs and booking arrangements.
You DO need to book your own accommodation, but see below re tickets..
We have an allocated number of places on the showground. Those will be primarily for S cars but we are also responsible for a select group of other TVR models which will represent the TVR Car Club. This is a formal National TVRCC event. You MUST register with me, the earlier the better please, as I have to submit a precise entry list to the organisers.
Everyone who gets their name on my list as an entrant will get an entry pack closer to the date which will include entry ticket for car, driver AND passenger. Provisionally an entry pack will cost you just £5, an absolute bargain for this great event. So if you are coming as an entrant do NOT book entry tickets with the organisers.
If you want to come along but can’t bring your S (there are plenty under restoration!) then you are very welcome indeed. You will have to park your other car in the public car park and book entry tickets direct with the event organiser. Please see their site for costs and booking arrangements.
This is NOT a concourse event! This is for enthusiasts not ‘anoraks’!! Do NOT worry, if you can get there we want to see you!
To book as an entrant PM me with: name, email address, model of S, registration number, mobile phone number (for Whatsapp nearer the date).
EARLY BOOKING MUCH APPRECIATED PLEASE!!

Richard - there is room for both FB and PH. They serve different functions. FB is good for chat, banter and simple to answer questions and of course it's excellent for selling stuff.
PH still is the best place for detailed technical explanations and procedures. PH is still, and probably always will be, the best historical archive for 'S' information simply because there is so much of it.
I've been guilty of using cryptic titles for threads in the past but who would have thought all those years ago that in 15 years time a simple factual title rather than witty one would be more helpful?
As the creator and principal Mod for the FB page I guess you are bound to want to promote FB over PH but I think you're missing an opportunity to show new owners what a vast wealth of support is available just for the want of knowing about the PH resource.
FB will now always be the first port of call for new owners for all the reasons you articulate but it would take nothing at all away from FB by accepting that it can be a "gateway" to PH. The best way to support the future of the 'S' is to promote both FB & PH for their different functions and running in parallel. The argument that some of the older content is unhelpful because links are broken doesn't really hold up. What do you think will happen to the links in old FB threads in 10 years time? Will FB still allow access the the information so far into the future? Social media platforms haven't got a good track record on this issue.
Your comment "Most FB members access the site every day. Indeed most have it on their phones and get a notification every time there is a FB item likely to be of relevance to them", implies there isn't the same function on PH. As you know though there is the facility to get notifications on any PH thread you are interested in. I still get the occasional ping for a post started a decade or more ago and a new owner discovers it and has a question.
FB is optimised for mobiles so the content is limited t what can be shown on a mobile screen. PH was developed in a world which was ruled by the PC but the upside is that so much more can be shown on a laptop or PC screen compared to a mobile.
We've seen just in the last few days how the FB algorithm drops some content for some users leaving out important parts of a thread thus making it impossible to follow.
PH is still a busy platform so it doesn't need the 'S' Forum to survive but I'd argue that 'S' owners do need the 'S' Forum as well as FB.
Just one final thought, do you think you could have posted the detailed threads you have put up today on FB? There just isn't the space is there?

Just to clarify. I didn't create the FB page. That was done and run for some time by Richard Kitchen of Southways Automotive. When pressure of work forced him to step back he asked 3 of us to take on moderation of the site, I am one of those three.
I was one of those who tried to keep PH relevant, kept posting on PH and kept advising FB members to register and use PH. It helped ME as a contributor to FB, if members also accessed PH. But that had very limited and dwindling success.
It is not a question of prioritising FB, it is purely that the majority of S owners use FB but not PH. Just reality.
I had hoped to find a way to gather the most important archived material as a TVRCC asset, but there are problems involved in doing so (partly because of the now archaic format used by PH).
The full page above was reproduced on FB and is now both 'pinned' and will remain easily accessible by using the Q function and typing SCH 2023.

At this early stage I now have the following names booked for SCH 2023. Please get back to me if you are able to join us.

A word in the ear of the anti facebook brigade. You are failing to face reality. Canute didn't succeed either...
As one who has been on here (i.e. on PH, not on this earth!) even longer than you, I’m going to say that I started reading your post with some scepticism. By the end of your post, though, I was largely persuaded that you are correct. I find the FB group very frustrating - not to use per se, but as a reference source. You get the same questions week after week (and sometimes day after day) and it’s very difficult to cross-reference to previous discussions of the same issue. You get excellent advice from a few posters, you get other advice which is confusing at best, and sometimes just downright wrong - but there it sits, not really helping anyone at all.
You’re right that PH is largely limited to one interest, and not necessarily checked every day. However, it’s still valuable, even if it’s only used as a reference resource rather than a social medium.
That’s fine for as long as there are experienced owners/enthusiasts on FB who do know how to access appropriate old PH threads. The reality is that those experienced owners won’t last forever - newly-experienced owners need to move in and take their place, and they are more likely to be FB-savvy.
Finally, you talk about a single archive for all S information. Some long-term owners might remember Pies (Colin’s) site which aimed to do exactly that - but that disappeared some years ago. My own site doesn’t attempt to be an “archive”, just a series of experiences, but even that costs money and takes time.
It took me 2 weeks to write about our Blackpool Thunder trip to Chatsworth last month - not because I’m a slow writer but because I was just too busy with other things to do it! Keeping a complete archive relevant and up to date (and dealing with the inevitable disputes about the difference between something being “the correct part” and something that “fits the same bolt holes”) would be a full-time job I think, and is simply not realistic as a “hobby”.
Thanks for your post that has encouraged me to think differently about this!
Thank you,and I respect you for it. I remember your valuable input from the day I first came on to PH. You may even remember me being jokingly referred to as partsmeister by a couple of members, now sadly gone, for hours and hours of work finding alternative parts. I didn't start the alternative parts list either but I certainly did contribute and it is one resource we can all try to keep up to date, and one which FB members are regularly referred to.

It takes a degree in IT, years or experience, real dedication and a lack of grumpiness to find it.
Alternatively you could look at the top of the page or use the search function?
1. It is pinned at the top of the page
2. go to the search function and type SCH2023

Pinned to the top of the page? The FB page? - Not at the top of my page it isn't.
The search brings the page up as does going into "Events" and clicking the link from there.
All a bit convoluted though, so for anyone looking for a quick link.......
