Hi all

Been mooching on PH for about 6 months now, and have owned my S for about 18 months. Never really had too many troubles (apart from its lack of use before I bought it) and I use it as my only car.

Anyway enough waffling, has anyone in Southampton found a good, reasonably priced garage, that you trust :-D I need some exhaust and bush/suspension work done and I'm just trying to find a garage that is interested.

Any comments much appreciated

It's not Southampton - but David Batty is just outside Guildford - and so less than 1hr from you - and is extremely good / dead straight talking - and fairly priced.....

Good luck.

Hi Rhodri. I am in Southampton and have an S3. I have tried several local garages and cannot find anyone that is either interested or experienced enough for me to trust them. I have used David Batty in Guildford and found him very good and reasonable priced. i have some suspension work done there a few months back. On the down side, it is an hours journey and there are no courtesy cars so it means finding your way back.......

where abouts in southampton are you? i may have seen your S around. Check out my profile to see if u recognise the picture!

Rhodri - I too am in Woolston (Waterside Park) - ****onald Close. I would take a guess that you are the chap I saw removing a guitar from the boot of an H reg S3 with cross spoke alloys in ****ergrave Close?

Edited to remove full road names (doh) and to add - popped around the road yesterday - the one in question is a Hawthorns car?

I've had my V8S for three years and not found any workshops in/near Soton, so for service work and particularly suspension setup I always use Mike at Raven Motorsport. They are based at Gatwick, but will get you to Gatwick station - and you can get a train home to Soton in about 2 hours (via Chichester).

They have sorted new stainless exhaust and done some manifold welding on my V8S, and will do bushes in the spring at next service.

Mike is an ex-main dealer TVR mechanic and now races ROver SD1's, so he certainly knows the Rover lump in my S. He drives a Cerb too. (Raven Motorsport 01342 844077 ). Recent "short" service and other bits, including replacement re-con clutch master cylinder £350 all in. He's a good bloke, and won't rip you off either.

I can also unreservedly recommend Mike Sweeney and his team at Raven. He gave invaluable advice, assistance and put himself out on several occasions to help me re-build the front end and engine of my V8S during the last 9 months. Thankfully its now complete . The guys (and of course Clare) at Raven are genuine enthusiasts - btw Im not on commission but beleive in giving credit where its due!

If the weather's like it is today then yes, if it's like it was yesterday then no .
I may have to go straight from work though, which means I have to remember at silly o'clock in the morning to get it out of the garage as opposed to staggering out of the dooor into the Omegod in the ususal morning 'auto mode' .
I'm assuming that it is tommorrow? give me a ring during the day to confirm details.

Just had a look at the forecast - doesnt look too great I must say! I am thinking the same to be honest. I really have too much work on but if the weather is like today I am inclined to think work can wait.

Drove in this morning topless Gave it some loud pedal past your colleagues as I was heading down Victoria road! The exhaust note bounces nicely of the VT walls!

well good to have another S on my doorstep. Dont go to many of the meets but maybe link up for a blast along to one of them in the future (I am a bit of a fairy in the winter and make "necessary" journies but not too many country road blasts to go to meetings!) I normally go along with HarryW in his V8S - its a good gas going in convey and the more the merrier.

If I do come across any decent garages in the area I shall let you know - and be great if you could do the same. For the time being, it looks as though I will stick with David Batty.
